This is a comparison between the R-rated version (Paramount Blu-ray) and the US TV version (Black Entertainment Television - BET).
Jason returns to Crystal Lake but is already expected there by an FBI task force who blast his body into several pieces. When a coroner examines the bloody remains of Jason, his heart develops a sinister attraction on him. Deprived of his senses, the coroner eats the heart of Jason, who now takes possession of his body. Bounty hunter Creighton Duke suspects that Jason is still alive and knows that he can only be reborn or killed by a direct relative. The waitress Diana Kimble, her daughter Jessica or her little baby come into question here. Duke makes his way to Diana, however Jason is ahead of him. For the ninth part of the franchise, Sean S. Cunningham revived the Friday the 13th series again. He directed the first part but was no longer involved in the sequels. Jason doesn't kill anymore through hordes of more or less stupid teenagers, but changes bodies several times to be reborn by a blood relative, similar to The Hiddenmovie, until finally the title promise comes true and he goes to hell. Due to the self-ironic staging, the bloody SFX scenes and various references, be it to the Evil Dead or Nightmare on Elm Street series, various content-related inconsistencies are not tragically significant. In an interview with director Adam Marcus, he revealed some facts about the Evil Dead reference. Thus, Pamela Voorhees is said to have brought her dead son Jason back to life with the Necronomicon through a pact with evil, which explains its fast aging and constant return. Freddy's glove at the end alludes to a crossover between Freddy and Jason that has been planned for a long time but wasn't realized until 2003. On US Television there was a five minutes longer version of the movie in which various scenes were inserted. Basically, the TV version is based on the R-rated version, i.e. the theatrical version. Some of the most striking new scenes are the following:
In exchange, various nude- and violent scenes were removed and swear words were toned down. The censorship took place in a variety of ways. In some cases critical scenes were simply censored, in others, an alternative scene was used. Swear words were either completely removed from the audio track or replaced by a more harmless expression. It's amusing that they didn't work very well because some of the swear words were overseen. So Duke can say "Son of a bitch" at one point and every now and then a "shit" survived the strict censorship requirements. The extended scenes of the TV version can also be found on Blu-ray or DVD releases of the film and therefore fans of the film should already be familiar with them. Interesting about the TV version are the alternative scenes, which were used for censorship reasons. The TV version shows an alternative shot in which Jason's heart can be seen but without his head landing on the ground next to it. When Steven and Jessica are fleeing of the house, an alternative shot was also used in which Jessica's half-naked bottom can't be seen. In the sex scenes between Luke and Deborah more harmless alternative material was used, as well as in the scene where Jason smashes the heads of the two policemen. Image comparison: TV version:
