Comparison between the TV-Version (taken from the Blu-ray) and the Extended Version (taken from the British DVD)

- 15 alterations, 6 of those including alternative footage
- Difference in running time: 85.9 sec

Almost every episode of this sitcom classic was released in an extended version on the US DVDs. For TV some cuts were done in order to trim the episodes to the usual format, however, some censoring can be found as well. In Great Britain, only the TV versions were released on DVD at first yet the newer "15th Anniversary Edition" contains the extended episodes as well and was used as a comparison here.

The new Blu-ray release is identical all around the world and contains – only the TV Versions, the extensions can also not be found in the bonus material. People interested in buying the series now have to decide: Longer episodes or better picture quality? The latter is really great on Blu-ray, rescanning of the original 35mm tape led to a brilliant picture and it is now also in the 16:9 format with more information on the side of the picture. On the other hand, about 2 minutes are missing per episode.

The extended version of Episode 1x15 "The One With the Stoned Guy" is about 1,5 minutes longer. There are several shortaddtions, none of which are too spectacular.

There is a black screen directly after the intro, which can only be seen in the TV Version

+ 2,3 sec

Mrs. Tedlock can be seen a bit longer in the TV Version.

+ 0,8 sec

The same scene runs a bit longer in the Extended. Chandler climbs on the chair and shouts something after Mrs. Tedlock, rocking the chair at the same time.

Chandler: "And frankly I don’t think that those kinds of shenanigans have a place in this office environment."

9,9 sec

After Chandler talked about being fired, Joey asks: "Oh, man, does that mean we got to start buying our own toilet paper?"
Ross ridicules him by imitating a TV reporter: "That was Joey Tribbiani with the Big Picture, Dan?"

9,5 sec

Alternative Footage

The shot in the apartment starts earlier, Joey is watching some weird sports broadcast on TV (the Scottish game Caber Toss) and Ross comments: "You watch something like this and you realize why evolution is just a theory."

The TV Version features a shot of the exterior of the building.

Extended Version 7,2 sec longer

Chandler adds "Took home a bronze" to his Innsbruck-story before offering Amouz-bouche in order to change the topic.

The TV Version merely shows the shots before and afterwards insignificantly longer.

Extended Version 3,1 sec longer

After Ross's "Vulva..." during the dirty talk, the TV Version fades to black and back to Joey's question.

The Extended Version does not feature a black screen but some exterior shots for a nicer transition.

Extended Version 6 sec longer

Alternative Footage

Chandler passes Ross and Joey in an alternative take. His sentence is the same, but only the Extended Version features the few words the other two exchange. The TV Version starts again with the sentence in brackets, which still can be seen in the same shot.

Chandler: "It's OK. It's OK. I was always rooting for you two kids to get together."
Joey: "The trembling thing was nice."
Ross: "Shut up!"
Joey: "(Hey, Chandler...)"

Extended Version 4,5 sec longer

After Helen (who has been called into Chandler's office for fun several times already) has left the room again, Chandler and Phoebe talk about her in the Extended Version.
Phoebe: "You know, she doesn’t seem very warm."
Chandler: "I know. She has like no personality."
The intercom was still on and Helen can be heard: "Ahemmm."
Chandler gets startled, switches the intercom off and touches his forehead, obviously embarassed.
Monica can be seen a bit earlier as well: "No, Wendy, don't do this to me..."

The TV Versions only shows the previous shot of the door a tiny bit longer.

Extended Version 11,6 sec longer

Rachel and Phoebe can be seen insignificantly earlier in the TV Version.

+ 0,4 sec

However, the same shot is longer in the Extended and Rachel adds: "Do you think it's going to be cool or...?"

2,4 sec

A shot of Steve starts earlier, he says something about the drowning gummi bears: "Don't just stand there, call 9-1-1!"
He then reaches for the cereal box.

4,6 sec

Alternative Footage

In the Extended Version, Monica angrily says: "Why? What if I came into your office and I started... I... I can't think of an example, ok?"

The TV Version, however, shows the previous shot of Steve 1 sec longer and Monica repeats her "Why?" in the off.

Extended Version 6,3 sec longer

Alternative Footage

The Extended starts earlier in the café, Monica talks about the evening. The TV Version immediately starts with Joey's reaction, which can also partially be seen in an alternative shot here. Only the parts in bold can only be heard in the Extended, the one in italics is in an alternative shot and the part in brackets is identical.

Monica: "So, I told him 'I'm sorry, that's just how I feel'. And he told me I harshed his buzz. Then I said, 'Don't eat that, that's a kitchen magnet'. And then he didn’t listen, so we left him in the emergency room."
Ross: "Oh Mon, I'm sorry."
Joey: "What a tool!"
Phoebe: "You did the right thing."
Rachel: "(You don't want to work for a guy like that.)"

Extended Version 20,5 sec longer

Alternative Footage

Rachel is asking about the ruined evening: "Oh, by the way, am I going to get paid for the full 3 hours?"
Monica and Ross look at her angrily and she adds: "It was just a question. I'll ask later."

When Ross gets up, the two versions show different takes of it.
