Comparison between the theatrical cut (German DVD von MCP / identical to the US R-Rated DVD) and the Extended Version (US 4K UHD / Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome) FreewayVanessa's mother and stepfather have just been arrested for prostitution and drug offenses. When the youth welfare office threatens to put her back in foster care, Vanessa flees to her grandmother. On the highway, Vanessa's car breaks down. The charming Bob Wolverton offers her a ride, but he turns out to be a dangerous freeway killer. Vanessa manages to shoot him down, but Bob survives and now presents himself as Vanessa's victim.... Director Matthew Bright takes the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood as a template in Freeway to make a very, very nasty thriller set in the white trash milieu. Reese Witherspoon is terrific as the almost permanently cursing Vanessa.
Extended Version on the US Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome
As with e.g. Witchtrap or Horror High, Vinegar Syndrome has released a long version of the film. This runs just under two minutes longer than the known theatrical version. It is likely the NC-17 version, which had to be trimmed to an R-rating before release. In fact, this version has extended scenes of violence and even more filthy dialogue. As an example, in the Blu-ray Bob asks if Vanessa was anally raped by her stepfather. In the theatrical version, there is never any mention of her butt. It is also interesting that at the end you can clearly see what happened to Vanessa's grandmother. The release of Vinegar Syndrome is a UHD/Blu-ray combo with excellent picture quality. It can currently only be ordered via the Vinegar Syndrome homepage, but will surely be available in regular stores at a later date.

BD: 21 sec [00:17:25][00:18:31] Master error: Vanessa drives away longer with the car.
BD: 1 sec [00:35:20][00:37:13] The Blu-ray shows alternative footage as Vanessa is urged by Bob to speak her feelings out loud. The conversation is similar with only minor differences. At the end, the Blu-ray is longer as Vanessa once again expresses that Larry ejaculated into her mouth. Theatrical Cut: Bob: "A few moments ago, you were telling me that you felt like Larry had gone to the bathroom in your mouth. Those were your exact words. Do you remember? Now at that exact moment, when Larry ejaculated in your mouth, did you feel as though somehow you were being transformed into some kind of a human urinal?" Vanessa: "What kind of fucking questions are these, Bob?" Bob: "Vanessa, you have to answer with the first thing that comes into your mind. It's very important." Vanessa: "I knew I was flesh and blood." Bob: "I understand that. But you have to tell me exactly how you felt. You have to learn how to express your feelings out loud." Vanessa: "I felt just like you said." Bob: "Say it out loud, Vanessa." Vanessa: "I felt like I had been transformed into a human urinal."

BD: 2 sec [00:36:52][00:39:08] The DVD cuts to Vanessa after Bob asks her if she enjoyed being fucked by Larry.
In the Blu-ray, Bob adds the "up the ass?" again. This is followed by another shot of Vanessa looking at Bob. Bob: "Did you like it when Larry fucked you up the ass?
DVD: 3 sec BD: 4 sec [00:39:55][00:42:21] Bob can be seen in the Blu-ray after he has asked Vanessa to take off her pants. He also says the following. Bob: "[...]and tell me how your father used to fuck you in the mouth."
BD: 2 sec [00:40:03][00:42:32] In the Blu-ray, Bob repeats once again that Vanessa should take off her pants. In the process, he gives her two punches in the face. Bob: "I called you a fucking cunt. Now get your fucking pants down, you dirty illiterate fucking cunt." Vanessa: "Please, Bob."
BD: 9 sec [00:45:52][00:48:45] Bob, wounded after being shot, is gasping in the car a little longer. Then a cut to Vanessa.
BD: 3 sec [01:03:49][01:07:31] The Blu-ray shows another shot of Mesquita being strangled by Vanessa. Then a cut to Vanessa.
BD: 5 sec [01:18:03][01:22:26] The DVD continues to show the three women standing over the guard. Vanessa bends down to take the keys from him. Vanessa: "That won't feel very good, will it? Frau: "He sure is bloody." Frau: "I still think he's cute."
The Blu-ray cuts to the security guard instead. Vanessa's sentence is missing here.
Woman: "He sure is bloody." Woman: "I still think he's cute." DVD: 5 sec BD: 5 sec [01:18:25][01:22:49] Mesquita can be seen for a longer time as she leaves the restroom. The camera pans down to the bleeding Mrs. Cullins. The next shot starts earlier.
BD: 3 sec [01:27:28][01:32:19] After Vanessa has locked the suitor in the trunk, the Blu-ray shows her running back to the car, pointing her gun at the trunk and pulling the trigger several times. However, she has no cartridges left in her gun. She angrily throws them away. She gets into the car and drives away.
BD: 32 sec [01:31:02][01:36:34] The DVD cuts to the dead grandmother.
The Blu-ray shows an alternate take of this. You can see that the grandmother is naked and tied up.
DVD: 3 sec BD: 3 sec [01:31:20][01:36:53] The Blu-ray shows Bob getting hit by the lamp when Vanessa hits him.
BD: 1 sec [01:31:34][01:37:09] The Blu-ray shows Vanessa throwing a shelf at Bob.
BD: 2 sec [01:31:52][01:37:29] Bob spins around with Vanessa on his back before they fall to the floor.
BD: 3 sec [01:31:56][01:37:36] In two other shots, Vanessa rams Bob's head onto the floor.
