Gutterballs is an 80's style slasher that is slightly below average at best. It invests way too much time on the asocial behavior of its characters of which almost everyone is extremely unlikeable. A rape scene that is almost 10 minutes long marks the beginning of a revenge plot that yields some very bloody murders. The work of Ryan Nicholson can be easily categorized as exploitation but lacks the charming vibe that comparable productions offer their audience.

Normally, that would be everything that needs to be said about the movie but Nicholson thought it was necessary to assemble a new cut of the movie which goes by the name Pin-Etration Edition. It also has the advice "Adults Only" on the cover artwork, which seems a little odd since the film's original version does also feature explicit shots of male and female genitalia that are on the brink of pornography. The new version discussed here crosses this border in a downright uncreative way. During the sequence in which Lisa is violently raped by the main antagonists of the story, Nicholson frequently added short shots that show a vagina being penetrated by a (rubber) penis. Most of the time, the original version simply goes on so that we can call it usage of alternate material. And that's it. This is the reason for the production of a new version of the movie. No additional plot, no extended gore scenes, just a few hardcore snippets without any artistic relevance. Whether that makes the film experience any more intense for the viewer seems to be a matter of individual assessment. The audience for this is not big anyway, since Nicholson has produced a limited number of DVDs and the Austrian distributor has also a quantity of 666 to offer. Maybe some film buffs who are keen on having a release that isn't available in large numbers might see a justification here. But since (at least the Austrian release) lacks nearly all of the bonus features that the original version has on board (making of, audio commentary, only 1 picture gallery instead of 4) they might reconsider, as well.
