Black Emmanuelle, White Emmanuelle

During the Christmas season, the wealthy Crystal hosts several guests at her villa in Egypt, including photographer Carlo with his model Laura, her two daughters Magda and Pia, and the free spirit Horatio. Over the next few days, several fateful encounters occur that change the lives of all involved...

The film Black Emmanuelle, White Emmanuelle (original title: Velluto nero) presents a series of events whose coherence is not easily discernible. The reasons why this or that happens, and especially the motivations behind them, often remain in the dark for the viewer. Gabriele Tinti plays the photographer Carlo, who has a penchant for decomposed animal carcasses, nomadic corpses, and gigantic piles of excrement. It's no wonder that model Laura has little desire to pose in such a setting, but when she refuses to work, she faces the threat of sexual assault. Fortunately, she finds refuge in Pia's open arms, who, after an escapade with Horatio, discovers her lesbian love for Laura.

In the United States, there have been two Blu-ray releases of the film. On July 6, 2021, Black Emmanuelle, White Emmanuelle was released on Blu-ray under the title Emanuelle: Black Velvet by Full Moon. A French print was used, which unfortunately was not complete. The cover indicates that it is a longer European cut, and therefore, some scenes are only subtitled in English.

The movie is part of the Blu-ray box set The Sensual World of Black Emanuelle, released in the USA by Severin. Here, an Italian print was used, which also has significantly better picture quality. The Severin release is about three minutes longer than the Full Moon Blu-ray, with most of the missing scenes being party sequences. The Full Moon Blu-ray also has several short gaps that are not listed in the report. It can be assumed that the film was never fully dubbed in English, as some scenes on the Severin Blu-ray are in Italian with English subtitles.

It's also interesting to note that the night filters are missing on the Full Moon Blu-ray.
