Comparison between the UK DVD released by Nouveaux Pictures and the US Blu-ray released by Criterion. Both media include Anatole Daumann's so-called "Producer's Cut" wich was authorized by director Oshima.

On the UK DVD's packaging you can read the word "Uncut", however, there is one scene which was altered in order to conform to the BBFC's guidelines (Protection of Children Act 1978) because there's an immoral contact between a woman and a minor.

On the DVD's cover you can read:

"This film has not been cut for the UK release, however certain frames have been optically edited in accordance with BBFC guidelines."

During this scene, Sada (during a dream) pulls a small boy's penis. The scene was altered so that you don't see her hand touching the boy's pubic area.

On October 5th, 2009, the BBFC re-rated the movie and made the following statement about this scene:

[...] "Although the present submission has not been cut by the BBFC, the distributor chose to remove one scene in its entirety prior to submission. The scene in question had been optically censored (by visual reframing) when the work was previously classified '18' for cinema release in 1991 and '18' for DVD release in 2000. The missing scene shows Sada tugging the penis of a young boy and was felt to be potentially indecent within the meaning of the Protection of Children Act 1978. The previous cinema and DVD releases dealt with this problem by reframing the scene so that the actual contact between hand and penis was below screen, allowing the meaning of the scene to remain (through facial reactions) whilst removing the potential indecency." On the 25th of July, 2011, the movie was rated yet again, this time without any optical differenes. The result was a

Sada (Eiko Matsuda) plays with 2 kids, both of them run away from her and the scene seems to be quite cheerful at first. However, at one point she gets a hold of the little boy who symbolises Kichizo in her dream.
She grabs the boy's penis and starts pulling it pretty rough. The boy is in pain and in tears looks at the little girl.
Additionally, the US Blu-Ray's version of this scene is 6 frames longer.
