A scene at a print shop follows. Wan Chu is working there plus the news are on the radio. Wan Chu argues with a co-worker. Then, Wan Chu pours a bucket of oil over her head.
A few minutes later, this scene is also in the DC. Basically, without any changes made. The only difference is the radio announcement: Altered Audio Track
10:04-10:28 / 10:10-10:34 In the Theatrical Version, a new abortion law and the guy run over are being mentioned. The police assume it was an accident, they are looking for witnesses. The DC contains a report about the explosion in the movie theater and a connection to the Triad war is made. Eye witnesses can call a number and the public is appealed not to stash explosives at home because it is punishable with 25 years.
When Wan Chu is on her way out, she talks to her social worker resp. the social worker tries to keep the conversation going because Wan Chu appears very pessimistic. On the stairs, she runs into the three boys and Wan recognizes them. She runs after them and threatens she recognized them.
Director's CutPaul explains how the bomb works, starting with the timer.
They then drive to a movie theater. Having arrived, they excitedly switch seats because they are afraid there might be innocent victims near the first spot they sat. A few seats further is Wan Chu, she notices the boys. Paul has the bomb with him and he is really nervous. The bomb is supposed to blow up at the end of the movie. They active it / put it under their seats. Paul realizes his finger prints were on the bomb but it was too late anyway.
Subsequently, there is a small explosion. Nobody got wounded but the people run out of the movie theater in panic. This scene basically follows approx. 3 minutes after the next conversation of our three main characters. Also in the Theatrical Version, except there is no connection made to the three boys resp. they haven't been involved in the bombing! Here and also during the following chaos during which the Superintendent shows up, minor adjustments have been made. For that reason, the differences during the uncut scene: 13:18 / 07:00-07:03
The boys are on their way out plus an exterior shot of the entrance resp. the people running out. 2.8 sec
Additional Footage Theatrical Version 13:20-13:23 / 07:05 Lui talks about another bomb attack on the phone. + 3 sec
Alternate 13:53-13:55 / 07:35-07:39 Alternate shot. In the DC, Lui apologizes a bit longer. Please note: it is the same take (just like the following difference) in the DC. Only, it is longer in the DC plus the source material looks worse. Director's Cut 2.3 sec longer
Alternate 14:12-14:17 / 07:56-08:03 When the people are pushing forward, they are held back by a cop. The Theatrical Version fades to black and the scene is over. The DC on the other hand contains a rather long shot of it, followed by an additional shot of Lui. Director's Cut 2 sec longer
Now, the three boys are on the run. Some shots of it have also been used for the alternate escape in the Theatrical Version but in a different context plus the DC several additional shot of the escape - a direct comparison would be pointless. The boys worry they might have hurt someone. They also joke about a bigger explosion next time. Now, Wan Chu approaches them here s well resp. she accidentally recognizes them in a back alley and says she recognized their school uniform.
Last but not least a small shot of a toilet bowl.
Theatrical Version 10.7 sec longer Partially Recut 13:17-14:17 / 10:00-11:29 The the bomb scene in the Theatrical Version, as already described in the colored box. The DC now shows the scene in the print shop, also described in the colored box already. Director's Cut 29.4 sec longer 14:17 / 11:29-12:54 In the following, an additional scene at the police station. It is about a bomb. At first, Han flirts with a secretary. His co-worker comes in and they keep discussing how to continue the investigation - a local gang connection is supposed to get checked out. Then, a witness is being summoned and she describes Lui as the guy who exposed himself in public. The Superintendent complains a little. 85.3 sec
Alternate 17:31-17:37 / 16:08-16:25 When Lui drives up at the garage, the DC is longer (and also in worse quality again). The mechanic also says he had already checked the car two weeks before and Lui replies that kind of behavior would increase the revenue of the garage. Director's Cut 11.1 sec longer
Altered Audio Track 18:07-18:45 / 16:56-17:34 When Lui comes in, his last comment is new. Same with the subsequent phone call. In the Theatrical Version, the Triad special unit is being mentioned and that one of the Triad got busted a week before. In the DC, Lui's short answers are vaguer plus he mentions a patient that should not be visisted at the end of the conversation.
Altered Audio Track 21:35-22:50 / 20:24-21:48 Almost any single sentence is new when the three boys are talking to Wan Chu. In the Theatrical Version, she asks if the car was heavily damaged. The boys act innocent and Wan Chu keeps pushing by explaining people ended up in cages for a hit and run in Hong Kong. In the DC, she speaks more neutrally that the boys would have gone to jail if they had been caught. At the same time, she leads the conversation to her mice from the very beginning. With animal cruelty, she wants to make it clear to the boys that this what is about to happen to them as well. When she grabs her gun, Wan Chu also mentions she had rebuild it.
21:57 / 20:46-20:50 Nonetheless, redubbing was not enough, so footage has been removed as well: the boys also explain it was supposed to be a joke and no one was supposed to get hurt. 3.8 sec
Alternate 22:01-22:04 / 20:54-21:02 Still the long sequence redubbed almost entirely: close-up of Wan Chu pushing a needle in the rat's back of the head. The shot of her holding the rat in front of the boys' faces is longer as well (again, the entire scene has been replaced in the DC on the French DVD)) plus Paul complains for a brief moment. Director's Cut 5.4 sec longer
Alternate / Partially Recut / Additional Footage Theatrical Version 22:50-23:23 / 21:48-23:44 After the conversation, the versions continue completely different resp. the scene at the club is being approached differently. Theatrical VersionAgents are discussing further details about the weapon deals. A previous lead turned out to be a lead balloon and the involvement of South Africa, Angola and Cuba is being discussed in a critical way. Now, John Shum says they were going to pay the homosexual friend of one of the mercs a visit at the club. Subsequently, a first shot of the club.
Director's CutAt first, an additional scene on the street. Wan Chu is waiting for the boys and Paul is a bit feisty now: he wants her to show him some weapons. Wan Chu seems to like it and gets down to action. Then a rather small explosion in a house apparently caused by her.
Now Lui at the office. He is being informed about another explosion - this shot was already in the Theatrical Version at 13:20-13:23 / 07:05. Again the explosion, then a conversation at the police statopn. At first, a rather stupid conversation about "standing while pissing" which leads to the cop asking if the guy actually had not seen who put the bomb in the movie theater. Someone else was using the facilities when the bomb went off and he also has his problem with making a sketch. After all, he was busy with number 2.
Last but not least, Lui talks to his buddies on the street. They discuss his sister Wan Chu probably being the bomb maker and Lui kiddingly explain he would be capable of making a nuke if of all people, Wan Chu could pull it off.
Director's Cut 82.8 sec longer
