The original version was compared with the rough cut. Daphne, an 18-year-old aspiring Yale student, suffers from depression and earns her living as an escort, which she sees as a rebellion against a corrupt society. One day, she is caught by her neighbor Buddy when she shows up as an escort at her nephew's bachelor party. Buddy, who has lost his wife and suffers from loneliness, hires Daphne. In the course of this intense encounter, both open up. Daphne reveals intimate stories – partly in flashbacks – in which she serves men, and Buddy describes his loneliness and lost opportunities in life... You Are Alone is a dialogue-heavy, low-budget drama that draws its impact primarily from its intense chamber play atmosphere. Set almost entirely in a single room, the film thrives on its strong dialogue and the convincing performances of its two lead actors. Despite its simple means, it succeeds in building emotional depth and psychological tension. If you appreciate quiet, character-driven indie films, this is the film for you. In the US, the film was released on Blu-ray by Saturn's Core. In addition to the original version, it also includes a rough cut with a running time of 97 minutes. The rough cut contains no music, and in some scenes the sound is completely missing – but it does include some additional scenes. The characters are explored in greater depth, particularly in extended flashbacks. For example, we see Daphne visiting Buddy with her parents. In another new scene, Buddy is comforted by Daphne after finding his dead dog. In the rough cut, many shots are slightly longer and alternative takes are frequently used. None of this is listed in detail in the report; the comparison focuses on the relevant differences. Basically, you should stick with the original version. The rough cut is a little too long and drags in places – especially since the additional scenes offer little added value in terms of content. Running times:
