Extended Scene
15:33 The scene with the Gypsies at the station is longer as well. The Gpysies are killing time at the station. Only the UK Version contains two shots of a Gypsy stealing money from a wallet and putting it back. Other than that, the scenes are identical in both versions.
At some point, Viv enters and says: "Can I have those waiting to be intverviewed on this side, please? This side. Those being interviewed, follow the officer who's seeing you."
Now, Alex enters the room. Viv: "Those who have been interviewed, sit tight." Then one of the women to Viv: "Lucky heather, sir?"
Viv: "I'm sorry, dear." Please note: Viv's "I'm sorry, dear" is also in the International Version but only off-screen resp. it is audible during a shot of Chris. Viv now leaves, then Alex with Doctor Battleford. Alex: "We've just ID'd the Austin Princess that Jed was driving." Battleford: "It's mine. It was stolen a few days ago. I didn't tell the police because I knew it was someone from the camp and… Well, they get enough grief as it is." Alex: "You care about them, don't you?" Doc: "After I got divorced… Actually, there is no 'after', you just get divorced forever, of course. Anyway, I was on my own, didn't like the empty hours, figured I might as well make myself useful. I supposed I've become a bit absorbed.
Doc: Their lives and problems helps you forget about your own." Alex: "Well, that can happen." Chris approaches them: "Ma'am?" Alex: "Chris. Hey. What's with the old…" Chris: "Lucky, innit? Can't hurt." Alex: "Mmm, look at her. Doesn't look very lucky, does she?" Chris: "Not wearing the heather though, is she?" Alex: "OK." Chris: "You asked about that bastard cop killer Kevin Hales. I can't find a trace of him anywhere. Not at Pentonville or the Scrubs. He might've been farmed out to a nick. Coppers inside are high risk." Alex: "Well, not a trace. Don't you find that suspicious?" Chris: "Dunno. Just a balls up. Uh, here's the toxic report on the little blue pills we found in Jed's boot." Alex: "Amphetamins?" Chris: "Speed. Yeah."
Alex: "Well, it's a fair bet then that he was dealing. These are Class A drugs. And somebody here must know something about them. Good." Alex leaves, then Gene in the interrogation room. The bold-marked dialogs are missing in the International Version. 38.44 sec Removed Scene 19:18 Gene's conversation with Alex is longer in the UK Version. After Alex's "I need a drink", the International Version lacks some dialog. Gene: "You know, I think you're taking all of this far too bloody personally. Jed Wicklow was a drug dealer, now he's a dead drug dealer. String up the bunting, one more of the streets. As soon as we find out if he had any accomplices, we can ship all this lot back to shantytown." With Gene's next comment "You don't believe in all that voodoo nonsense, do you?", the versions are back in sync. 13.84 sec
Removed Scene 19:47 The end of the conversation is also longer in the UK Version. After Alex's "But what if there's more than one 'real' world?", a shot of Gene follows. Then Ray. In the UK Version, Alex also says "Excuse me". She then leaves and we see Gene in the interrogation room again. Gene: "Right, I'm tired and you people are doing my head in. We're calling it a day." Elderly Woman: "Your fate is connected with the fate of many others." Gene: "Suppose so, I'm a copper. Get your coat." Elderly Woman: "What sign are you?" Gene: "Serpico." Elderly Woman: "The hanged man tells me that you have power. Power that you will soon be forced to give up." Gene: "It'll be a cold day in hell when that happens, Grandma. Coat!" Elderly Woman: "You give up your patch to a Tyler." Gene: "What?" Elderly Woman: "A Tyler." Gene: "Tyler." With the following shot of Ray hanging up the phone, the versions are back in sync. 39.12 sec
Removed Scene 20:35 After Ray's "This is the juicy bit", the UK Version goes on with Alex. She wants to talk to the Doc one more time. In the UK Version, the scene with Ray is not over yet. Alex is looking at the autopsy report and asks: "Where is he?" Ray: "On his way out." Alex: "Nice." Then Alex in the hallway, trying to talk to the Doc one more time. 8.48 sec
Extended Scene 28:01 Alex's nightmare is longer in the UK Version. While sleeping in her bed, Alex says: "Milly, I mustn't forget. Mustn't forget, no. I'm not forgetting anything." We see scenes from the nightmare every now and then. Then the elderly woman Alex talked to at the station says: "The lifeline? How can it be fading? The devil made flesh." Now, she is dreaming of Gene: "You're on our side now." Then Gene and Mac. The latter says: "You're one of us now, Gene. Square on the level. Shut the door, Gene." After a small pause, Mac goes on: "He's square on the level." Then Battleford: "You must be. Surely." Now Mac again: "Shake hands." The bold-marked dialogs are missing in the International Version.
Alex finally wakes up. The International Version instantaneously continues with her at the station. In the UK Version, she wakes up looks straight ahead and recognizes Mac. Alex: "What are you doing?" She lies down again and we see that Mac is gone resp. he has never been actually there. Not until then, we see Alex at the station in the UK Version.
34.28 sec Removed Scene 29:38 The scene with Alex and Chris at the station is longer. In the International Version, Alex asks for the Doc on the phone ("Dr. Battleford please"). Then Chris again, followed by the next scene with the Gypsies. In the UK Version, Alex asks for Dt. Battleford as well but the phone conversation is not over yet. Alex: "It's DI Drake from Fenchurch East CID." Chris: "I can't see a GP being wrapped up in all this. Not really." Alex (to Chris): "Why? Because he votes SDP? now on the phone He's not? Fine. Do you know when he’ll be back? OK, thank you. Bye." Alex hangs up the phone, then she says to Chris: "He's there. He's avoiding us. Chris, I want you to go down to the surgery and find Battleford. Don't let him fob you off. I want to see exactly what he's got to say about the prescription drugs in Jed Wicklow's system." Chris: "He'll say he doesn't know anything." Alex: "Well, apply some pressure and see what happens." Chris: "Shall I tell the guv?" Alex: "Uh, you know, I think we should keep this between us. You know, we're both grown-ups after all." Chris: "Wilco." Now, Chris leaves, follwed by a shot of Alex. With the next scene, the versions are back in sync. 42.44 sec
