Comparison between the cut Hong Kong VCD by Ocean Shores and the German Blu-ray by TVP.

- 10 cuts
- Runtime of cuts: 102.7 sec (= 1:43 min)

Also, there are 2 additional scenes on the Hong Kong VCD with a duration of 96.3 sec (= 1:36 min)

A few additional master errors with a duration of less than 0.5 sec each were not listed in the report. Especially the HD master loses a few frames here and there.

Magnum Thunderbolt (international title: A Man from Holland), created in 1986, is a nice sleazy Hong Kong action movie in which Philip Ko and Michael Chan Wai-Man face each other. A lot of violence, sex and explosive side issues like an incoherent body painting session dominate the events - the genre fan is well served here. And on the Blu-ray/DVD combo by TVP, available since October 2020 after a few postponements, you get to see the trash flick for the first time in really acceptable quality and more or less complete form. Anyway, from a version point of view, there was quite a chaos.

The German VHS was censored for several minutes with all kinds of violence. The version was based on the IFD export version, of which we do not know any release in its uncut form. This export version contains a longer scene that is missing in the Hong Kong version. The Hong Kong versions have their own violence/sex censorship, but also offer two additional action scenes. Curiously, the HD scan contains none of the additional material of the Hong Kong and export versions, but fortunately it is uncensored in the action/sex scenes. As an SD bonus, TVP has included an "Extended Version" on DVD, for which inserts from the German and Hong Kong versions and alternative credits from a different release were added.

In the following report, we will focus on the HK VCD, which, as already mentioned, has extensive censorship. It shows much more action than the German VHS, but is also not complete. Sex scenes have been removed in more detail than in Germany, which is not surprising. Strangely enough, the VCD also has two additional action scenes with a duration of more than 90 seconds. These can both be found in the bonus featurette with removed scenes on the Blu-ray as well as integrated in the film as an "extended version" on DVD 2 of the mediabook.

Runtimes are ordered as follows: Hong Kong VCD in PAL / German Blu-ray

The Hong Kong VCD has several credits on black screen as an introduction. The Blu-ray shows them during the first shots afterwards.

VCD 30,5 sec longer

Hongkong VCD	German Blu-ray

02:07 / 01:41-01:42

Philip Ko tears the woman's dress up at the end/beginning of two shots. In the first one, you can see the pubic area respectively the HK has cut away exactly prior to this.

More bumping and breast licking.

Remark: Here is a quasi-error in the HD master of the Blu-ray. After the first close-up, two shots with a duration of 8 seconds are simply repeated directly after each other. In fact, you will find an exclusive further shot with exactly the same duration only in the Extended Version on the bonus DVD instead. For the sake of completeness, this one was also depicted here (see other image format and poorer image quality).

19.2 sec

28:46 / 30:30-30:53

The next lateral image is considerably longer, again there's more sucking of the breasts. The next shot also starts earlier.

The bald head (John Ladalski) falls down on the genital area of the woman. She whimpers and Philip walks away.
