Comparison between the U.S. TV cut (on Bounce) and the international cut (on the 4K Blu-ray from Arrow Video)

- 33 cuts & 17 audio-only edits
- Total duration of cuts: 139.3 sec (= 2:19 min)

Additionally, 2 extra scenes in the U.S. TV cut (= shortened scenes from the Hong Kong cut that were reinserted) with a total duration of 289.8 sec (= 4:49 min)

Jackie Chan’s action hit Rumble in the Bronx has been available in 4K for the first time in the UK and the U.S. since June 2026, thanks to Arrow Video. In the report on Arrow Video’s bonus material, we’ve already broken down in detail, among other things, which two scenes from the Hong Kong cut were reinserted into the U.S. TV version. It’s a familiar pattern: likely as a counterbalance to the censorship that’s usually applied, the U.S. TV version often contains more footage than the theatrical version. In this case, these aren’t actually exclusive or deleted scenes, but rather scenes from the original Hong Kong cut - and even these two scenes had been specifically shortened for American audiences. Arrow Video reconstructed these two sequences frame-by-frame from the 4K image master.

We’ve now had the chance to view the complete version, and as expected, the censorship in the two scenes was just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to numerous audio edits for profanity and brief violent scenes, it’s once again amusing that even implied sexual innuendo or simply a blackhead being squeezed were a source of offense for American audiences. A nastily zoomed-in full-screen image completes the viewing experience.

Runtime information is organized according to the following scheme
US TV cut in NTSC / International Cut by Arrow Video at 23.976 fps

The TV broadcast begins with the usual brief notice about the ratings.

Then things get a bit odd - or rather, it’s U.S. commercial overload: The Miramax logo is cut off mid-screen for an ad break. The opening credits are also skipped this way. The commercial break lasts exactly 30 seconds, and the movie resumes when the title screen appears. Here are two more comparison screenshots from the first few minutes: The zoomed-in full-screen view on U.S. TV is, once again, terrible, and the burned-in subtitles for foreign-language scenes differ.

Another frontal shot of Keung squeezing a blackhead in the “mirror” or in front of the windowpane.

3.1 sec

08:51 / 08:52–08:53

The next shot after the reaction shot to Elaine also starts a little earlier, and he’s still squeezing.

1.3 sec

US TV version is longer
15:20–15:58 / 15:23

As already summarized in detail in the report on the Arrow bonus material: The singing at Bill’s wedding is completely missing from the international version, but was reinserted in the US TV version - albeit shortened in several places.

+ 37.8 sec

15:58 / 15:23–16:22

This may just be a quirk of this particular broadcast: right after the bonus scene, there was a commercial break (including fade-outs and fade-ins) that completely cut out a short scene. After a shot of the skyline, you see Keung working out. There’s a knock at the door; he goes to answer it, and there stand Bill and his wife in matching outfits. Keung frantically pulls on a pair of pants, but the two leave right away. With the shot outside, the U.S. TV cut is back.

The guy ends up on the ground at the end of the shot.

At the beginning of the shot, there’s also an elbow strike.

1.3 sec

21:55 / 22:21–22:23

The camera pans up a bit further, and you can see Nancy being threatened.

1.8 sec

22:16 / 22:44

Typical U.S. censorship: While the kick to the groin is visible in principle, the first few frames showing the impact have been removed.

Keung is visible a little longer, so the wound on his head is also more clearly visible.

1.5 sec

25:11 / 25:43–25:50

Keung takes more hits in slow motion, including to his groin.

7.5 sec

25:22 / 26:02–26:04

A close-up shows the battered Keung on the ground once again.

Keung looks up for a little longer.

This, too, was already broken down in more detail in the report on the Arrow bonus material: The scene where Keung joins Evelyn in the store and the gangsters start causing trouble again was reinserted from the Hong Kong cut in a slightly shortened form.

U.S. TV version

This is likely unique to this particular broadcast: Due to a commercial break, the final moment of the scene, where Tony walks away, is missing.

Two dialogue changes in a row. Interesting, since Angelo’s “kiss my ass” was included earlier, but here, in the context of an insult, the word was apparently no longer acceptable.

Angelo: “She’s a pain in the ass.” -> “neck”
Tony: “I won’t wanna hear any more shit from you, Angelo.” -> “stuff”

Strange: With no apparent reason for the censorship, the end of the dialogue is missing here. Tony orders them to look for Nancy, and they briefly wonder if Angelo is hiding something from them.

The blooper segment of the end credits is still shown identically, and the subsequent credits on a black background are, in principle, also shown in full. However, this scrolling text segment has been significantly sped up. Additionally, of course, only the disc version still includes the R rating at the end.

Arrow Video is 152 sec (= 2:32 min) longer
