Compared are the TV Version and the Extended Version
14 differences, incl. 6x alternate footage
Length difference: 155.2 sec (= 2:35 min)
New season, old problem: Any Blu-ray release worldwide only contains the TV Version of every single episode while, for instance, the US and UK DVDs contain the Extended Versions.
Episode 4x08 (The One With Chandler In A Box) is 2.5 minutes longer devided in several smaller scenes during the entire episode with a clear pattern. Especially the additional footage of Monica flirting Richard's son at the end of the episode is pretty nice.
Prior to the opening credits, Joey hangs up one more time and for the very first time, it is not Chandler who is calling him again when the phone rings. This time, it is Ross. Except, when he mentions that Chandler is with him, Joey hangs up instantaneously.
Joey: "Damnit Chandler! Stop callin'!"
Ross: "Joe-Joey, it's Ross."
Joey: "Sorry Man."
Ross: "That's all right."
Joey: "What's up?"
Ross: "Uh-not much. Uh, I got Chandler here and he's really really sorry..."
Additional black screen in the TV Version due to a commercial break.
+ 1.1 sec
At the end of the shot, Ross says: "But it is correct."
Monica gets the little notes with all their names written on: "Hey, what's this? It's all of your names. Let's pick!"
Phoebe picks the first name.
Joey: "Hey what's going..."
Hee sees Chandler and leaves right away.
Everybody: "No Joey!! Stay!"
Monica: "Joey, come on! We're picking names for Secret Santa."
Joey: "Okay. I invented Secret Santa. You know?"
Rachel: "What are you laughing at? You're the one who said Die Hard was your idea."
Ross: "It was! Don't make me show you the napkin!"
Then Rachel picks a name.
In the Extended Version, Phoene also says: "Okay I'm really bad at initials."
Chandler makes a face: "Oh."
Monica: "Wow! You got your shopping done early this year."
Chandler: "Yeah, well, my Camel Cash was about to expire, so..."
For a better transition, the TV Version here contains another angle of the medium long shot that shows Monica approaching Chandler.
Extended Version 9 sec longer
Phoebes phone conversation ends differently.
The TV Version contains a further medium long shot, followed by a transition to the subsequent scene.
In the Extended Version, she also says: "Okay we'll be right in."
Chandler: "Okay, so, uh, who's gonna-who's gonna take her in?"
Rachel: "I'll go. You can go watch the parade."
Chandler joyfully runs to the TV.
Extended Version 8.4 sec longer
In the Extended Version, Phoebe also says: "I'm going to be in there. While I'm gone..."
Ross and Chandler look at each other, their confusion is written all over their faces. Phoebe then adds: "Chandler you're in charge!"
Chandler acts all excited for a moment.
The TV Version contains the subsequent conversation from a different angle.
Extended Version 10,8 sec longer
A little more dialog between Chandler and Kathy in the Extended Version.
Kathy: "Oh, I am so so sorry. I feel responsible."
Chandler: "Don't worry. It's not your fault."
In the TV Version, the subsequent shot differs instead resp. Chandler's and Kathy's position is a different one when Joey comes in.
Extended Version 6.3 sec longer
Monica keeps laughing about Rachel's comment a bit longer, then she adds: "You have the best luck with eye doctors!"
Monica: "I know!"
Alternate take of Chandler commenting on the time he spent with his "beloved animal": "(What with the robbery and all!) And that chick used to be very cute!"
Extended Version 2.6 sec longer
Additional black screen in the TV Version due to a commercial break. As compensation, both the previous (Chandler and Joey) and subsequent shots (Monica at the doctor's office) are insignificantly longer in the Extended Version.
While the following shot simply starts insignificantly earlier in the TV Version (no screenshots), Monica keeps explaing herself in the Extended Version - a few reaction shots included: "Okay, if it were Greek I would be blind in both eyes. Come on, I like him because he's handsome and he's nice and smart and...handsome."
Extended Version 9.6 sec longer
Additional dialog subsequent to Chandler's three explanations that he will spend the time inside the box.
Rachel: "And-and if he stays in the box you guys would be friends again?"
Joey: "Let's just say it's a start."
The TV Version sticks longer to the medium long shot when Ross leaves a message. In the Extended Version, the subsequent shot starts a little earlier - probably because the previous one starts earlier as well.
Subsequent to a smooth transition, the scene on the balcony starts a little earlier.
Tim: "Hey...mind if I smoke?"
Monica: "Care if I die? No. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Go ahead and smoke."
Additional dialog after Monica mentions her believe dating Tim (= Richard's son) was weird.
Tim: "Even the one in the box?"
Monica: "It's not weird, is it?"
The scene on the balcony is longer. In addition to that, Tim goes the extra mile.
Monica: "Oh my god. I am....I am...so sorry."
Tim: "It's okay. I mean, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without a little emotional scarring."
Monica: "Oh. You know what's even worse? My friends were right."
Tim: "You know what the worse thing for me is, is that you actually remind me of a younger version of.... my mom."
