The light-hearted comedy about a mermaid in New York, directed by Ron Howard in 1984 and starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah, is being shown in HD for the first time on Disney's new VOD service Disney+. Unfortunately, however, only in a censored form: All moments of nudity have been digitally retouched or zoomed in, and even alternative material is used.

In the IMDb, these interventions have already been described for several US TV airings. It can therefore be assumed that Disney did not do any work on this itself, but has already purchased the master in this way. After all, the censored swear words (such as "shit", "bitch" and "goddam") that are otherwise often censored in American television have remained untouched.
