Undercover Cops on Sex Fantasy Island

By chance, reporter Elliot snaps a picture of smuggler Omar at the airport as he receives a bag of diamonds from his accomplice Nina. Nina and Omar want to prevent the picture from being developed and follow Elliot. Elliot is on a trip to a resort on the island of Eden, where all sexual desires come true. The boss of the island is Mistress Lisa, who has her eye on Elliot and falls in love with him. Cops Fred and Sheila have learned that Omar is supposed to be on the island and are investigating undercover. Fred plays the mechanic, while Nina dives into the world of S&M in a latex outfit.

In 1990, Garry Marshall scored a big hit with Pretty Woman, in which a businessman falls in love with a prostitute. Four years later, he sends Dan Aykroyd and Rosie O'Donnell as undercover cops to a kind of sex version of Fantasy Island in which a strict distinction is made between submissive citizens and dominant visitors. The film is based on a novel by Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire), but adheres only vaguely to the original. They didn't really know what to do with the material. The S&M theme is treated only superficially and clichéd, the thriller elements are banal and the humor hardly ignites. A thoroughly screwed up film. One could have guessed that the interest in a film in which both Rosie O'Donnell and Dan Aykroyd squeeze into a latex outfit is rather low. The film flopped, the two stars distanced themselves from it, and over time it fell into oblivion. Admittedly, the film does have a trashy charm to it. If you press the play button with the right mindset, you can definitely enjoy it.

Unrated version on German DVD

The US DVD contains a censored version of the film. In three places, explicit scenes have been removed and there are two versions of the sex scene between Lisa and Elliot in the historic bed. The German DVD contains the uncensored version. However, the missing scenes from the US DVD are from a slightly inferior picture source in the German DVD. Presumably, the German VHS was used. If you absolutely want to see Rosie O'Donnell as a dominatrix, you can grab the German DVD with a clear conscience.
