The Chicago Massacre

The happiness of the childless couple William and Amanda seems perfect as the two are provided with the two stepbrothers Eli and Joshua by a social worker. Too late, the two find out that the two brothers come from the cursed city of Gatlin where a murderous cult was once founded by children. In his luggage, Eli has a special variety of corn that he grows on an abandoned industrial site. One by one, he gathers his classmates around him to resurrect the bloody cult. Only Joshua recognizes the danger and tries to stop Eli.

In the third part of the Children of the Corn series, the action moves from the countryside to the city. As usual, corn is grown, a cult is founded and people are killed. Moody and fast-paced, the film is clearly better than its predecessor. The corn monster appears in the wild finale.

R-Rated and Unrated on UK Blu-ray by Arrow

There are two versions of the film. An R-Rated and an Unrated version, which differ in the finale. When the monster comes to life and descends upon the youths, some shots are missing in the R-Rated. Partly bloody scenes, partly harmless follow-up shots. It is noticeable that the scenes with the tentacle of the monster were often removed. Presumably this was a bit too offensive, as in the shot in which a woman is tied to the floor by the monster.

Despite the ''Uncut'' imprint, only the R-rated version of the film can be found on the German Blu-ray by capelight pictures. Apparently, an HD version of this was the only one still available. On the Arrow Blu-ray, the Unrated scenes drop a bit in quality and come from a different picture source. Some of these shots are also zoomed in a bit. Arrow has done a very good job of making the transition as smooth as possible.

The Unrated version was previously available on other releases such as the Dutch DVD from RCV. However, this one had another difference with a mirrored scene that is not found in the Arrow. See details in the corresponding report.
