Comparison between the European Macabra version and the US Demonoid version. The differences:
A couple exploring a mine comes across a hidden chamber where satanic rituals were performed long ago. They find a strange casket there, which they take into their possession, which later turns out to be a fatal mistake. This is because the casket contains a demonic hand that is now freed and takes possession of its victims, ultimately killing the person who stole the casket from the chamber. Two versions exist of this Mexican horror contribution from the early 80s, but in comparison they differ only by a few relevant differences. The US version, which is also known as the Demonoid version, definitely has the most interesting additions to show here. First of all, there is a new opening sequence that explains the background story about the demonic hand. You learn that the hand once belonged to a young woman who was sacrificed by a Satanic cult. Her demonic and murderous hand was cut off and then locked in a casket. Another relevant difference from the Euro version are the alternate death scenes. Although there are only a few murders in the film and they are rather restrained in the degree of brutality, they have nevertheless inserted harder material in two death scenes in the US version. There is also an alternate ending that shows the demise of the main actress as well as other soundtracks. The Euro version has just under 100 plot additions compared to the US version. This sounds spectacular, but you have to keep in mind that most of the plot extensions are not longer than two seconds, which makes this seem irrelevant again. In the meantime, both cut versions have been released in Germany by the label X-Cess on DVD and Blu-ray in different mediabooks. 0 min
The US version, unlike the EU version, got a new opening scene: In an underground vault, a woman is seen kneeling on the floor. She is holding a casket in her hands. When she hears noises nearby, she hides the casket and flees. A couple of cult members show up and discover the casket, but it is without contents. They immediately rush after the woman. She continues to wander through the catacombs, but doesn't get far, because several cult members catch up with her and attack her. A fight ensues, in which the woman is able to overpower the men for the time being thanks to her strong demon hand. In the end, she loses the fight and is tied up with both arms. One of the cult members then takes an axe, approaches the woman and cuts off her demonic hand. The woman screams and looks down at her bloody arm stump. Meanwhile, the severed hand dangles around on the chain for a while, but it suddenly makes its own way and crawls along the ground. One of the men impales the hand with a knife and locks it back in the casket. 144 sec
