A couple of additional master errors, each lasting less than 0.5 sec, were not listed in the report.

Profile in Anger is badass 80s action cinema from Hong Kong without compromise. Leung Kar Yan took on directing (his debut feature), screenwriting and the lead role. He is joined by Phillip Ko and Michael Wai, among others. After a quiet start, there are some interesting giallo elements, rat-eating junkies on motorcycles, a torture scene with a drill, smashed skulls, chopped off hands and a generally nice nihilistic mood. All solidly staged as well as with snappy synthesizer music. A typical over-excited exploitation thriller, as you can hardly find nowadays, unfortunately. And also this title is not too easy to find, because it was almost only released in Asian countries.

Various VCDs or VHS editions were apparently censored for violence peaks. Whether the Hong Kong DVD release by Joy Sales, which is assumed to be uncut here, is really uncut, can unfortunately not be said definitively. Possibly there are special circumstances like with The Club, which also features Michael Wai. In any case, the DVD from China is definitely cut. It comes with English subtitles and may have already caught the eye of one or the other prospective buyer internationally. In addition, it was the 1:1 model for the US bootleg by Bonzai Media, which has probably significantly increased the audience.

At least the action has remained untouched here, at least compared to the HK DVD. However, two sex/nude scenes had to give way, which from a Western point of view are almost ridiculously harmless compared to the violent outbursts that have been included. Also, curiously, an additional, more harmless ending was added: only here is our hero arrested according to a short phone call, which is backed up with appropriate newspaper clippings over the credits. Also a typical adaptation for many an Asian country.

15:02 / 15:20-17:55

You can still see the dog and Philip Ko is talking something to the woman off-screen. She comes out of the bathroom and says she bought something for him. Philip dodges a question about getting married soon: What they have would be better than marriage. The music becomes playful and the sexual act takes place.

56:17 / 59:10-59:21

After Philip Ko's disfigured back of the head is seen and he hangs up the phone, there is another long shot. Here you see his bare butt, which must have been the reason for the procedure. The woman is stroking his wig in the front. He says that she should hurry up, because he is about to go out.

79:28-79:45 / 82:32-82:35

The Joy Sales DVD (original version) shows the fall from the building a few redundant frames longer. There is a soft fade to a split screen with Leung and Michael's characters.

The Chinese DVD chages to a close-up of the phone instead. Music can be heard and a few paper clippings are shown. They seem to report that Leung's character was imprisoned immediately after the performed revenge.

Chinese DVD 14.3 sec longer

The credits roll over a different still picture of the previous scene. This differs in both versions.
