Even the summary of Hangmen oozes action-sleaze from the 80''s, and the film itself also fulfills this cliché with its heavily-sunglassed CIA mercenaries in ill-fitting suits, shooting automatic firearms as if their ammunition supply was infinite. Of course, there is also the upright agent who tries to stop the pack and to do so he gathers his buddies from the Vietnam War, because they also have their old combat skills still on call. By the way, the action movie is the feature film debut of Sandra Bullock and the first directing work of John Christian Ingvordsen, who produced several more films with excessive use of weapons and a thin story in the years after. In Great Britain, the uncut version is available on DVD with the BBFC 18 rating. The version on VHS, which was released years earlier, carried the BBFC 18 rating as well but had been shortened by just over 5 minutes. Besides several scenes of violence, they have also shortened a few shots showing the use of butterfly knives. The cut BBFC 18 VHS by Medusa was compared to the uncut German VHS (FSK 18, equivalent to the R-Rated version) by Intercontinental Home Video. 28 cuts = 5 minutes and 22 seconds 10 min
