After a little chat, Travis and Wes let Tobey go but he has to leave the shoes behind.

The conversation with the Captain is longer in the Extended Version. Not much longer, just a word here and a comment there.
After discussing the current case, it turns out that this is not their case anymore. The case now belongs to Gooden and Scott.
