Comparison between the theatrical version and the workprint.

The teenagers on Elm Street have forgotten the name of the child murderer Freddy Krueger, which prompts him to resurrect the dead Jason Voorhees. Jason is supposed to kill some teenagers on Elm Street, putting the blame on Freddy. If people remember him again, Freddy gains the necessary power to commit more murders. Lori and her friends quickly find themselves in the crosshairs of the two killers, but Jason starts acting increasingly independently, which infuriates Freddy.

The first and only crossover between A Nightmare on Elm Street killer Freddy Krueger and Jason from Friday the 13th gets a lot of things right. The two characters are cleverly brought together, and the fights between them, once in Freddy's dream world and another time at Camp Crystal Lake, are thrillingly staged. The film largely avoids CGI effects, opting for plenty of fake blood. Unfortunately, the film feels rushed, and the characters are quite one-dimensional.

Workprint with a small difference

There is a workprint version of Freddy vs. Jason, which already represents the final edit of the film. The sequence of scenes is identical, and there are no differences in dialogue, effects, and music. However, there is an interesting deviation. In Jason's dream sequence at the beginning of the film, Heather undresses and swims naked in Crystal Lake. In the theatrical version, when she climbs out of the lake using the ladder, the frame was shifted upwards. This is the only shot in the film that was altered. The reason is likely to prevent a brief glimpse or suggestion of her intimate area.

The workprint has a timecode on the screen, and text has been blurred in the middle left. The credits of the workprint end early, followed by scenes from the A Nightmare on Elm Street films set to two songs. The first is a rock song, and the second is "Mama Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J.
