Release: Mar 14, 2011 - Author: Blade41 - Translator: Gladion - external link: IMDB - more from this series
After 24 - Twenty Four was first aired in 2001 in the USA the series about Kiefer Sutherland as Agent Jack Bauer soon became a huge hit. The real-time concept alone where 1 season was taking place during only one day alone was enough to make the series interesting. Even though some of the coincidential events are a little too unrealistic it's easy to overlook them - after all, they couldn't just show Jack Bauer sitting on his desk for 2 hours just to be realistic - nobody would want to watch something like this!
In spring 2010, 24 - Twenty Four ended after 8 seasons and one TV movie. At least for now - they are planning to release a cinema film that evolves the story a little further. We will see whether or not the transition from TV to the Theatres will work out fine for Jack Bauer.
The Extended Versions
In November 2010 the 8th season was released on DVD and Blu-ray. As a little bonus feature the producers included extended versions for 7 episodes.
The extended versions each consist of a scene which is added to the last scene of the respective episode's TV version. The additions evolve the plot slightly further and also give a little more insight into the characters.
If you really need these extended versions or not is up to you to decide. Each episode works just fine without them anyways.
This is a comparison between the TV Version and the Extended DVD Version which both are included in the German DVD box-set released by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The extended version has 1 additional scene of 1:37 minutes.
Cole Oritz keeps looking for the two terrorists in a police helicopter above the East River, who are trying to get a nuclear bomb to Manhattan in a rubber raft. He tries to contact Chloe in the CTU-central via radio, who is supposed to help him with the search.
Cole first talks to a radio operator, asking for Chloe O'Brian from CTU, the operator confirms. Cole then says to the other police helicopter that it was their job to secure the water vehicle and its cargo. Judging from the last known direction, the target area is being searched systematically. The Pilot of the other helicopter confirms and then says that the connection to CTU is standing and Cole can speak now.
Cole asks Chloe if there was a satellite above the river, she says that they are just receiving a feed from the NSA and that she is working as fast as she can to follow the route on the water.
Cole asks if the drones were online again, but Chloe has to negate, they are working in autopilot-mode. Arlo was working frantically to get a connection. Cole puts pressure on her, and Chloe tries to explain to him that because they were completely offline before it was a miracle they can get connections to any servers at all.
He cuts Chloe off and tells her to calculate the route and landing point quickly. They were searching for a six-person rubber raft, probably with an outboard motor - the same type they were using in the military. Chloe says that judging frim his estimation and the stream, they would arrive at the water-processing plant in 15th street.
Cole doesn't think this was right, though, because it was much too bright there, they were looking for a place they didn't attract any attention. He asks if the East River Park was a possibility.
A short moment later, Chloe says the calculations reinforced his theory. At that, Cole orders all available patrol cars to get to the East River Park between 6th and 13th street and create a safety zone of five blocks in all directions. Chloe confirms and sets the destination to 4 minutes later.
Now, Cole asks for Jack's health, she tells him he is being treated to and that Renee gave an all-clear signal. Cole is relieved and says that he would like to talk to him as soon as possible - Chloe promises to tell Renee.
Subsequently, Cole is getting a message from the other police helicopter, saying they might have spotted a deserted rubber raft further away.
The helicopters continue flying along East River.
