The Cat and George KennedyA genetic cat, modified into a monster, breaks out of a research laboratory and manages to get on board a yacht with which Walter Graham, who is involved in criminal activities, wants to escape. His business partner Mike Harvey and a group of Spring Break teenagers are also on board, but Walter is reluctant to let them aboard because his crew has quit. Captain of the yacht is the resolute Rachel, who saves on buying the yacht back from Walter. Besides quarrels among the crew, the first deadly attacks by the cat occur on the high seas. In his films, ship journeys have a mostly tragic outcome for George Kennedy. In Death Ship, he and other castaways land on a Nazi ghost ship, which increasingly controls his mind, and in The Uninvited, he makes bloody acquaintance with a cat monster. The story about a mutated cat that lands on the ship of a horny white-collar criminal who hopes to get his hands on some hot spring-break teenagers on his escape from the law, but to his displeasure drags a few boys onto the yacht. The cat monster has the charm of an old hand puppet, the attacks are staged quite bloody, just the banter on the yacht is only moderately interesting. Especially trash fans should get their money's worth here. Two cut versions from US Blu-ray includedThere are two cuts of the film on the US Blu-ray of Vinegar Syndrome. One is the US version and the international version, each containing scenes missing from the other version. The US version shows us in detail the background story in which the cat breaks out of the lab and an additional attack in which two truck drivers are killed. In the international version, we get to know how the teenagers end up in Fort Lauderdale, including several more or less interesting scene extensions. In the love scene between Corey and Suzanne, the international version provides us with the nude action, while the US version offers more harmless alternative scenes. After all, the ending is different in both versions. Personally, I think the international version is the better cut because it is a bit rounder and offers the better ending.
