Japanese director Hideo Gosha is best known for his historical chambara samurai films. In 1974's Violent Streets, he turned his attention to the yakuza genre and delivered a thriller that surely delivers with a few ultraviolent scenes. Unfortunately, not too many releases are known worldwide. An uncut release was, for example, the French DVD. As is so often the case, however, it contains French subtitles only.

Since February 20, 2023, a Blu-ray of Eureka is available in the UK, which is in principle qualitatively and with the exclusive bonus material once again recommended for genre fans. Unfortunately, the film had to be censored for the BBFC rating. Once again, animal cruelty was the problem here and so a few cuts were made during the final scene with the chicken cage. Brief moments where the explosions leave little doubt that the animals have come to harm here are missing from the version.

Running time information is arranged according to the scheme
UK Blu-ray at 23.976fps / French DVD at 25fps

French DVD starts with Metropolitan logo. Not included in the cuts duration/quantity.

10.5 sec

92:27 / 88:47-88:48

After Egawa nodded approvingly in the helicopter, a short first shot from the chicken cage is missing. In the process, an animal is caught by a small explosion.

1.3 sec

92:39 / 88:59-89:00

Before Egawa comes out of his cover again, another chicken is hit during a short additional shot.

1 sec

94:30 / 90:48-90:49

After a few shots were fired from behind, there is a small jumpcut in the British version: A chicken on the right of the picture is caught by a small explosion and apparently does not survive it.

1 sec

94:39 / 90:57-91:05

The following tracking shot is missing a longer piece in the middle with another jump cut. Here, too, at least one chicken is shredded by an explosion.

7.8 sec

The final black image is a bit longer on the Blu-ray.
