Compared were the cut UK VHS by Satanica (BBFC 18) and the uncut R-Rated DVD by Satanica.
There are missing 2 minutes and 50 seconds within 20 scenes. A doctor transplants a heart from a gorilla to his son Julio to save his life, because he's suffering from a heart disease and is soon going to die. But with disastrous consequences, for Julio is turning into a terrifying and murdering beast caused by his new heart, so he begins a bloody hunt. This Mexican film appears to be quite cheap and crazy, considering for example that they used real recordings for the heart surgery. Regarding the quality you have to bear in mind that the movie is 40 years old and the budget was really low. Of course it's highly recommended for trash fans. At first the film was released in the theaters in the UK, already censored. Apparently the movie was already cut by the publisher before they submitted it to the BBFC. They demanded for two further cuts to provide the former BBFC-X rating for the cinema release. The first edition of the UK VHS by IFS was uncut (according to ofdb) and was later put on the infamous list of video nasties. The later released UK VHS by Satanica/Sovereign and the UK DVD by Film 2000 are cut and contain the same cut version. Both releases have the BBFC 18 symbol. The film was cut in advance by the publisher for the VHS release and this version was submitted to the BBFC. Equally to the cinema release they demanded further cuts to give a BBFC 18 rating. This arises from a conclusion from the official BBFC cut-list, which lists fewer cuts than those which were actually made in the film. So for example, the eye-scene is missing in the BBFC list, although it was censored. The UK DVD by Film 2000 should have been released uncut according to the label. But apparently they just received the old censored master, so finally they released that version. In contrast, the UK DVD by Redemption is uncut, but it's not listed in the BBFC data base. Moreover the US DVD by Something Weird Video or Deimos Entertainment/BCI Eclipse can be recommended, because it's uncut and it contains some other films in addition to "Night of the Bloody Apes".
