25:10 Only the UK Version shows Ray with Gaynor Mason in her jail cell. Gaynor: "Do I look like the sort of woman that hangs around with gangsters?" Ray closes the door. Gaynor: "Is that a yes or a no?" Then he lights a cigarette. Gaynor: "Is that all I'm gonna get?" Ray: "Yeah." Gaynor: "You're very tense, aren't you, DS Carling?" Ray: "Am I?" Gaynor: "Yeah. Like a coiled spring." They both smile, then Gaynor goes on: "Still, I suppose it must be hard in your game, having to play the tough man all the time. I bet beneath that hard shell of yours, there's a softer side people never see, eh?" Ray shakes his head: "No." Gaynor: "Can't kid a kidder." Now she tries to throw him off with her charms. Gaynor: "You're a bit like Clint Eastwood, aren't you?" Ray (with a little smile on his face): "Am I?" Gaynor: "Yeah. Strong, silent type. Brooding. The big hero." Ray: "The days of coppers seen as heroes, love, are gone. We're not even liked. In fact, we're hated by some." Gaynor: "What would you do instead?" Ray: "Joint he army. Could be Falklands again, any time. They'll need good men like me." Gaynor: "Yeah, but… a dead hero is no use to anyone, is he?" Ray then opens the door, walks out and closes the door. With the follwoing shot, the versions are back in sync. 114 sec
Removed Scene 37:01 The scene with Gaynor Mason as decoy starts earlier in the UK Version. Alex and Gene are sitting in the Quattro when Gaynor walks by them. Gene: "Ray, Chris, she's on her way." Chris: "Roger, guv." With the exterior shot of the pub, the versions are back in sync. 19.72 sec
Removed Scene 46:51 Alex and Gene are on their way out. In the UK Version, a scene with Chris, Ray and Gaynor/George follows. Chris: "I wonder if this counts as one arrest or two?" Chris laughs and leaves the room. While Ray is putting cuffs on her, Gaynor says: "Sorry, Ray." Ray: "It's DS Carling." Gaynor: "Decided yet?" Ray: "On what?" Gaynor: "The army." Ray: "No, not yet." Gaynor: "It'd be a hell of a loss to the police." Ray: "Buttering me up is not gonna stop me putting these on you. So forget it." Gaynor: "I mean it. I wanna go to sleep at night knowing there's cops like you, helping keep good people like my mum safe. Besides, khaki’s not your colour." Then she winks at him. Chris comes back and asks Ray: "Why's your face all red?" Ray: "Well, 'cause it's hot in here." With the (older) picture of George, the versions are back in sync. 55.28 sec
