Compared are the TV Version and the Extended Version
10 differences, incl. 6x alternate footage Length difference: 95.2 sec (= 1:35 min) New season, old problem: Any Blu-ray release worldwide only contains the TV Version of every single episode while, for instance, the US and UK DVDs contain the Extended Versions. Episode 4x05 (The One with Joey’s New Girlfriend) contains several additional scenes. All in all, the Extended Version is approx. 1.5 minutes longer. Here, Chandler has a crush on Joey's girlfriend resulting in some additional scenes dealing with that issue. 00:01-00:04
The Extended Version starts with a distance shot at the Central Perk: Joey is doing a crossword puzzle. Monica: "Joe, I-I don't think a four-letter word for ship can be ship." Joey smiles: "I thought it was a freebie." In the TV Version, the subsequent shot of Ross starts insignificantly earlier (no screenshots). Extended Version 10 sec longer
01:43-01:44 Additional black screen in the TV Version due to a commercial break. + 1.3 sec Alternate 02:36-02:38 Subsequent to Chandler's confession, the TV Version continues with a small shot of Rachel smiling. In the Extended Version, the previous shot of Ross is longer. Ross: "All I'm gonna say is, finally, it's nice to be in a mature relationship." Rachel: "You know, the world would be such a better place if that actually was all you were gonna say." In addition to that, the subsequent shot of Phoebe appearing in the background starts slightly earlier in the Extended Version. Extended Version 12.4 sec longer
Alternate 04:59-05:07 Chandler's conversation with Kathy is longer. The two following shots are alternate as well, the dialog is identically equal though. Kathy: "(You're kidding! Oh, I love him.) My dad used to make me stay up late and watch reruns with him." Chandler: "Mine too! Did your dad also make you watch the Mr. Universe contest?" Kathy dismissively: "No." Chandler: "Well, mine neither." Kathy smiles and he goes on: "(Hey, listen, I'm sorry...)" Extended Version 10.8 sec longer
Alternate 06:45-06:47 After Phoebe's weird comment regarding hamsters, the TV Version shows Chandler and Ross. The Extended Version contains a few additional shots of the entire group mumbling: "Isn't it? Yeah, it's great." Extended Version 3 sec longer
Alternate 10:40-10:43 Alternate shot of the skyline. no difference
Alternate 11:19-11:22 The TV Version sticks to the distance shot of Amanda kissing her son. She then gets up in order to walk over to Ross. The Extended Version contains a closer shot of her saying: "Oh uh, I blocked the adult channels for the other babysitters but the code is 4-3..." Ross interrupts because he is annoyed: "I'm fine." Extended Version 6.7 sec longer
Alternate 12:41-12:43 Additional black screen in the TV Version due to a commercial break (no screenshots). The Extended Version contains a smooth transition to an additional exterior shot of the street instead. Extended Version 1.9 sec longer
14:01 Subsequent to Chandler's toilet story, the scene is much longer actually. Monica: "What movie did you get?" Joey: "I got what I always get, Die Hard." They react rather condescending but Kathy says: "See, that's what I like about Joey. Any other guy would have been 'Yeah, The English Patient is my favorite movie too.' But Joey goes, 'No way. Let's get Die Hard! I'm not watching that English crap.'" Monica: "Yeah, he's dreamy." Being so close to Kathy on the couch, Chandler appears to feel a little uncomfortable: "I gotta go. I gotta go meet some friends." When Chandler has left the room, Joey critically asks: "He has other friends?" 32.2 sec
Alternate 14:01-14:03 Another alternate shot of the skyline. no difference
15:03 At Monica's apartment: She is sitting on the couch sick and she is about to sneeze. The tissue is too far away so she grabs the cushion instead. Afterwards, she looks at it and says: "Sorry Grandma." 9.3 sec
18:03 Earlier at the apartment again: Rachel is taking Monica's temperature. Monica: "I still have a fever? Are you sure that thing's working right?" Rachel: "Well, we could take it the other way." 8.2 sec
