original title: Billy Chan

Comparison:

  • US DVD
  • German VHS Version
Release: Sep 18, 2016 - Author: Muck47 - Translator: Tony Montana - external link: IMDB
23:50 / 31:15-31:22

The camera keeps zooming in on Billy while the flute player speaks about Yamamoto and Yan Suk more detailed.

7 sec

24:18 / 31:49-31:51

The street a little longer.

1.7 sec

28:03-28:05 / 35:25

Jump-cuts in the German VHS Version when the three killers show up.

+ 2.2 sec

28:10-28:19 / 35:30

Now a longer scene missing in the German VHS Version (incl. some dialog): Actually, the shot of the killer walking ging inside with Okata is longer. Also, Yamamoto first yells at him, then at the guy next to him.

Also in the Korean VOD Version by the way. But at the end, this version cuts to Yam Suk plus the exterior shot starts earlier. Not until then, one can see the group on the bridge.

+ 17.8 sec

29:36 / 36:37-36:48

Billy takes another look around resp. there is a tracking that represents just that before he makes a few steps forward.

11 sec

31:26 / 38:35-38:56

After they survive the fight on the bridge (partially missing in the Korean VOD Version) and someone falls off the bridge and winds up in the water, the US Version lacks some footage: Billy takes down the attackers - mostly with kicks. The remaining baddie runs off plus Billy a little earlier.

21 sec

31:30 / 39:00-39:01

Shortly afterwards, another shot of Billy is slightly shorter.

1.2 sec

31:47-31:52 / 39:17-39:20

The German VHS Version contains several jump-cuts during the little conversation.

+ 2 sec

36:57 / 44:13-44:15

The three night guards walking away a bit longer.

1.7 sec

47:20-47:25 / 54:14

Cut in the German VHS Version: Yamamoto longer when he is rolling across the room.

+ 5.5 sec

52:46 / 59:25-59:33

More footage of the fight between Billy and the flute player before Billy remains still on the ground because he is surrounded by swords.

8.5 sec

56:27 / 63:05-63:27

Also missing in the Korean VOD Version but the US Version lacks even more footage: One does not even get to see the two killers punch the woman in the face here resp. the shot ends abruptly. Only in the German VHS Version, the woman then winds up on the blanket unconscious and the two killers look at her confused for a brief moment. Then some dialog (also in the Korean VOD Version), the third guy picks a fight.

22.1 sec

57:52 / 64:50-64:51

When the two killers are kicking each others' butts (by the way a scene that is even shorter in the Korean VOD Version), the US Version lacks two shots of two punches in the face at the end/beginning.

1.6 sec

60:46 / 67:38-67:44

Billy gets hit with a club more often.

5.5 sec

65:00-65:18 / 71:45

Missing scene in the German VHS Version: Billy speaks longer, then one of the guards shows up. The snitch acts pretty rebellious and provocative so one of the guards gets inside angrily.
The subsequent exterior also starts earlier. The camera pans down.

This also explains why the guard is inside and beats up the snitch in one of the subsequent scenes.

+ 17.8 sec

65:27 / 71:54-71:59

Okata takes a look through the window before it goes on on the inside.

5.2 sec

71:53 / 78:11-78:18

Billy's outdoor fight with the snitch gets actually interrupted by a look inside: Okata positions in front of Yan Suk to protect the latter resp. Okata has to deal with a few attacks so Yan Suk does not get hurt.

6.8 sec

72:46 / 79:09-79:31

In the German VHS Version, Billy and the snitch make a few wild jumps. Then some people flying around but that it not fit to their actions at all.

Please note: This scene is also missing in the Korean VOD Version. Unfortunately, the US Version even lacks a little more at the beginning and end of the scene.

22 sec

Partially Recut
73:24 bzw 73:53-74:49 / 80:08-82:06

Yan Suk keeps stepping aside. Yamamoto is already and when he is about to attack, Billy intervenes and the fight starts. Weird: Shortly afterwards, this part is also in the US Version when the fight is over and everybody is looking for Yan Suk. See next alteration / no screenshots.

After Billy puts his food to the throat, there is actually a cut to Yan Suk (length: 12.5 sec) who then steps aside.
Removed from the US Version due to the alternate ending.

Afterwards, the US Version shows Yamamoto going down a little later as well. While the US Version ends with that, the scene is not really over: Billy looks around for Yan Suk who has already left. Then Okata in action in the room next door. Now the missing scene with a length of 15 seconds in the Korean VOD Version resp. the US Version starts after Billy's kicks in slow motion.

German VHS Version 62.7 sec (= 1:03 min) longer

73:53 bzw 74:49-75:04 / 82:33-83:15

After everybody looks around for Yan Suk, there is an alternate ending (if you wil): The US Version continues with the Yamamoto scene that was just described. In other words, the movie has some kind of happy ending with his death (and Yan Suk appears to have made it resp. she got rescued). After that, "The End" pops up on the screen instantaneuously.

The German VHS Version (and also the Korean VOD Version) shows that Yan Suk has committed suicide. She is lying on a hill and Billy explains she had killed herself because she could not stand the disgrace by Yamamoto. Billy raises his hand with sadness/anger. The End.

German VHS Version 26 sec longer
