Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate/FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
8 cuts = 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
2 alternative scenes = 4 seconds.
There is no need to make many words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". You doesn't know it has at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As to the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
When Alf is playing chess with Willie, a short alternative shot can be seen when the German Version cuts to a closer shot of Alf.
No difference in running time
Willie: Don't you think you should have checked with us before you invited her!
Alf: What for? We'd banter back and forth you'd do that frustrated head-rubbing thing and then you'd give in! This way we're spared all of that!
Willie gets up angrily and walks out of the kitchen. Alf gazes after him and then turns the chess board over.
Alf: Hey Lynn! You wanna take over for Willie?
Alf: Your move!
Lynn moves a figure nd says, "Checkmate!" She then gets up and walks out of the picture, Alf can only smash the figures off the board.
The intro was shortened a bit. Alf's view of him opening a door and entering the room was removed.
Again a part of the intro is missing. Alf reaches into the fridge for the cake but Katherine smacks his hand away.
Lynn: (Why can't Jody stay for a few days?) She needs a place! What could happen?
Willie: Well, for one thing, she could discover...
Katherine: We know! Alf's an alien!
Alf: You know, I think it's time we got that printed on T-shirts!
Katherine: Alf, she could find out!
Alf: But she won't! Look, I met her once and she didn't find out then! As long as she doesn't get too touchy-feely, we're okay!
Katherine: But she could find out! Look, you spent two or three hours with her! We're talking about two or three days here
Alf: Two or three days? I told her she could stay a month!
Willie: Only a month?
Alf: Well, actually, I told her she could stay forever! But I thought I'd break it to you a month at a time!
Lynn: I think we should let Jody stay!
Alf: (And stay as long as you like!)
Brian: (Yeah! Alf did!)
The other laugh and pat Brian's back, which is different in the two versions.
Jody: Well, thanks, but I'm sure I'll be out of your hair in a few days!
Brian: That's what Alf said!
US Version: 1 sec
German Version: 5 sec
Jody: I can't live in a rib roast!
Alf: Yeah, but wouldn't it be nice if you could?
Jody: (What's the number?)
Willie: (It's 555-7339!
Alf: Sorry, 5692!
An exterior shot of the house, then a fade over into the kitchen, Willie enters.
Willie: Well, at least Alf took the time to leave us a note! He reads from it: "They say that breaking up is hard to do! Now I know, I know that it's true! Don't say that this is the end..." Brian further adds: Instead of breaking up I wish that we were making up again!
Willie: He didn't put as much effort into this as I thought! He crumples up the letter and throws it to the ground.
Alf is doodling on the paper and then says, Oh, great! A picture of spaghetti!
Jody: You're a man... and I'm a woman!
Jody: I hope you're not gonna try anything funny, are you?
Alf: Oh, you mean, like putting whipped cream in your shoes? Well, I might!
Alf is sitting at the kitchen table with his sunglasses on and singing.
