Background Information

Over the years, there were 3 digital releases of The Demoniacs just in the US. And from release to release, the move got a little longer. The 1st edition with a lengt of approx. 94 minutes has already been compared. It contains some alternate footage and lacks one scene with a lengt of approx. 1 minute - compared to the NL DVD that is. In 2009, said version from the NL DVD was released as 2nd edition in the US. For whatever reason, this DVD also runs with PAL speed (~ 91 Minuten = ~ 95 Minuten NTSC). In 2012, the very same label released a Blu-ray: The so-called "Unrated Extended Cut" which is even 5 minutes longer. In other words, the movie now has a length of approx. 100 minutes.

And this is where the German Blu-ray comes in because it contains 3 more minutes which makes it 103 minute long. Also, the picture quality is much better.

US Blu-ray vs German Blu-ray

The fact of the matter is that both versions are identically equal resp. there are no jump cuts or anything. The yellow color filter on the US Blu-ray is not an issue anymore and picture is better/sharper in general. Compared to the US Blu-ray, there are two additional scenes on the German Blu-ray.

On the one hand, one of the "deleted sex scenes" from the bonus section of the US Blu-ray is actually in the movie which also explains most of the length difference. So basically, there is nothing spectacular about it but the scene fits in really well. And according to the German label Wicked Vision, the scene was part of the scanned negative. In other words, it appears as if the scene does actually belong in the movie and it is nice to have it back in.

The remaining length difference results from a small shot to is not on the US Blu-ray for some reason - neither in the movie nor as bonus. Anything but spectacular and yet part of the movie - that scene is also on the two previous US DVDs by the way. In the director's commentary, Rollin explains the entire scene (Tina has sex with the captain) had only been shot for Export Versions.

After the sailor (Yves Collignon) is being calmed down by Maryse (Isabelle Copejans) resp. she tells him he better go to her room with her, this actually occurs.

On the bed, the sailor complains about everything and everyone. Cut to Maryse who is already completely naked, trying to make him hot. The sailor laughs and plays along - sexual intercourse included.

56:24 / 59:18-59:19

Prior to the scene at the bar, there is an additional scene with Tina and the captain in her room. She drops a veil next to the bed.

Please note: This moment is part of the deleted sex scene in the bonus features and it occurs after more than 1 minute plus the camera then pans to the right and shows Tina and the captain in bed.
