With The Final Chapter, Paul W. S. Anderson delivered a rather average final film of the undead series with Milla Jovovich. In China, the responsible censorship authority, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, also seems to have been unimpressed by Anderson's film. While parts 4 and 5 of the series didn't have to suffer too many censorship interventions, the final part of the series was once again subjected to a large-scale censorship attack. While in part 4 there were only a few minutes of comparatively harmless violence (see comparison) and in part 5 only retouching of Soviet symbols (see comparison), a similar paradox as in Alien: Covenant is revealed here. Instead of an Alien movie without aliens, this here is a Resident Evil movie without zombies. Well, it's not all that bad. There are still plenty of zombies, but not in close-ups. Especially not when they scream into the camera in one of the countless jumpscares. A longer piece of film including a "boss fight" was also removed. All in all, the extensive censorship adds up to a whopping six minutes of missing footage. The cut Chinese DVD was compared to the uncut R-rated version (aired on German TV). 56 cuts = 360.41 sec. or approx. 6 minutes 1 second 2:03
