Compared are the TV Version and the Extended Version.
8 differences, among them - 3 additional scenes - 1 extended scene - 2 scenes with alternate footage - 1 additional scene in the TV Version - Length difference: 61.1 sec resp. 1 min 1.1 sec (plus recap) After the History Channel stopped producing real history documentaries and started focussing on pseudo-scientific studies (UFOs and such) as well as pseudo documentaries (Pawn Stars) which they are very successful with by the way, they also tried out actual TV shows. The drama series Vikings is one of them and it is quite convincing. On 11/29/2017, season 5 premiered in the US (History) - the episodes are also available on Amazon. On 09/12/2017, before season 5 even premiered, season 6 was green-lit. With season 4, the number of each has risen. While previous seasons had 10 episodes resp. season 1 had only 9 episodes, season 4 consists of 20 episodes. This is also the case with seasons 5&6. Due to the increased number of episodes, the seasons have been split up. As for the current season 5: The episodes 1-10 are scheduled to be aired from November 2017 until January 2018 and the remaining episodes 11-20 will air later on in 2018. Similar to the previous seasons, season 5 was censored for TV in the US. Time index refers to the Extended Version 00:00
Recap only in the TV Version. The Extended Version only contains a small black screen. TV Version 44.3 sec longer Additional Scene 01:54 Bjorn speaks a little more detailed about the things he is currently dealing with. 13.2 sec
Extended Scene 16:08 The shot of Ubbe and Margrethe is longer in the Extended Version: He pushes her aside after she mentions Bjorn ("If they kill Bjorn…"). She crawls back on top and repeats her comment - only this time, she does not get interrupted. After she says "If they kill Bjorn…" for the second time, the versions are back in sync. 11.4 sec
Additional Scene / Partial Recut 28:20 Additional shot of tied up Bjorn and the princess. 4.7 sec
Additional Scene TV Version / Partial Recut 28:24 Subsequently, the TV Version contains a small, additional shot of Bjorn. The princess has her hand around his neck. Then the end of the additional shot from the Extended Version (previous alteration). The princess here raises her head to look at Bjorn at the very beginning of the shot. TV Version 4.3 sec longer
Alternate Footage 28:26 Now a longer scene with several alterations in both versions. In order to keep it as simple as possible, this is being considered one huge alteration. The Extended Version cuts to another take for a brief moment and then cuts back to the old one shortly afterwards. The TV Version sticks to the first angle the entire time. The dialog itself remains unchanged. When the princess takes off her scarf, the TV Version cuts to the very same angle exclusively in the Extended Version prior to this. Now, the Extended Version sticks to the first angle instead. At this point, the Extended Version contains an additional comment of the princess. The reason is simple: Not only does she takes off her scarf but she pulls down her top. And since breasts are a no-go for a show on History, the rest of her comments starts right away. In addition to that, the shot is slighly alternate in the TV Version because her top stays on. Subsequently, the Extended Version contains a few alternate shots. Starting with Bjorn's face and the princess from behind, if only partially, then more footage of the princess being topless. The TV Version on the other hand contains a (slightly alternate) shot of Bjorn, followed by a close-up of the princess. The versions are back in sync with the following shot of Bjor and princess - at least for the time being. In spite of the numerous alterations, there is almost no length difference. 1.7 sec
Alternate Footage 29:17 As before, the princess is topless in the Extended Version. She only moans in the Extended Version as well.
Then an alternate shot of Bjorn. The TV Version sticks to that shot while the Extended Version cuts to the princess. Her comment is identally equal.
TV Version 5.5 sec longer Additional Scene 29:22 Subsequently, a few additional shots of the two of them...
...followed by Torvi saying a prayer. The camera zooms in on her slowly.
