Comparison between the TV Version and the Extended Version.
15 differences, among them 7 with alternative footage and 1 recut
Difference: 113 sec (= 1:53 min)
The Blu-ray release only contains the TV versions of the episodes, as was the case with the first season. Those who know the DVD releases from the USA or Great Britain will surely miss the extended versions, which can be found on these DVDs.
The first episode of season two 2x01 (The One with Rossís New Girlfriend) is about two minutes longer, but the longest difference is a flashback to season one. It could well be that this is only the case on the Blu-ray and maybe the flashback was already contained in the TV broadcast - the running time which is about a half minute shorter than the running time of the other TV versions also speaks in favor of this.
Apart from that, it's the same old story: a lot of little additional jokes, especially with Chandler looking at his butt in the mirror while he's at the tailor's. And we also get to see more of Phoebe's crazy side.
The Blu-ray immediately starts with the opening credits, but it could be that the scene was contained in the old TV broadcasts - the extended version begins with a flashback to season one, presented by Phoebe.
"Ok, so this is pretty much what's happened so far. Ross was in love with Rachel since, you know, forever, but every time he tried to tell her, something kind of got in the way, like cats, and Italian guys. Finally Chandler was like 'forget about her' but when Ross was in China on his dig, Chandler let it slip that Ross was in love with Rachel. She was like, 'Oh my god.' So she went to the airport to meet him when he came back, but what she didn't know was, that Ross was getting off the plane with another woman. Uh-Oh! So, that's pretty much everything you need to know. But, enough about us. So, how've you been?"
A slightly longer black screen after the opening in the TV version.
+ 1.2 sec
Phoebe is laughing a bit longer in the TV version - not counted as alternative footage.
The Extended Version briefly shows Monica, then Phoebe continues in her disguised voice: "Here. And the winner is Ava Gardner."
Extended Version 5 sec longer
The Extended Version shows Ross at first, then Chandler adds (in reference to his previous comment that God probably has spoken as Chandler, when he tried to convince Ross that he hasn't got any chances with Rachel): "You know, cause aside from being almighty, he's also a wiz of voices."
The following shot of Ross begins earlier in the TV version instead - not counted as alternative footage.
Extended Version 4.4 sec longer
Phoebe a few frames longer in the TV version - not counted as alternative footage.
The Extended Version shows Monica, who looks a bit confused due to Phoebe's comment about sex. Phoebe asks: "Not even close?"
Extended Version 3.4 sec longer
After Ross has picked up the phone, the versions differ until Chandler comes in.
Rachel looks at the door in the TV Version.
In the Extended Version, she stands up angrily and walks over to the other girls.
Rachel: "Excuse me. Who gave her our phone number?"
Phoebe guesses: "OK, well...who had the motive? Was it the actor?" (she points at Joey) "The chef?" (she points at Monica) "The masseuse?" (she points at herself) "Or was it the guy who's dating her?"
Joey wants to answer enthusiastically: "Guy who's dating her! Guy who's dating her!
Extended Version 23.2 sec longer
There's a cut to Phoebe in the TV Version and the following shot of Rachel and Monica begins slightly earlier.
The previous shot is longer in the Extended Version and Monica says: "Hey you wanna hit Chandler again?"
He's shown after that.
Extended Version 2.7 sec longer
After Joey has tried to remember if he got his first suit at the age of 16 or 17, Chandler says "You know, I think I don't care." only in the Extended version.
Alternative / Recut
The versions differ after Paulo made his appearance.
The TV Version shows Paulo again and then fades to black. Next is a shot of the whole group and we see Rachel shoving him backwards into the room. She says: "OK, Paulo, Why don't you just go get dressed, and then you be on your way, ok, bye-bye."
A different and closer shot follows in the Extended Version and she says "OK, Paulo, now you've seen everybody and better yet they've all seen you."
The shot of the whole group, which already came up in the TV version, follows here now.
TV Version 2.6 sec longer
When Rachel says "Oh God, I know, I'm pathetic, I'm a loser", she is shown from further away in the TV version than in the Extended.
No difference in running time
After Phoebe has remembered Demi Moore and has said "She's got gorgeous hair!", Monica adds in the Extended: "That's why I wanted to look like her!"
Phoebe tries to talk her way out of it: "Oh. I'm....You know... My mom's dead."
Monica screams: "Oh my god!"
The Extended version begins earlier at the tailor's. Chandler is standing alone in the room and admires the mirror construction behind him: "Well, this is what my butt must look like to a fly."
Frankie asking "How long do you want the cuffs?", contained in both versions, is shown from different perspectives due to reasons of continuity.
Extended Version 6.5 sec longer
Phoebe is shown briefly and Ross asks: "And there's nothing you can do?"
Phoebe is shown earlier and answers: "At this point, it's a waiting game."
Joey sits down at the table in the TV version after he has figured out the misbehavior of his tailor.
In the Extended version, there's an alternative take of Ross saying "I'll put on a pot of coffee." in a comforting voice and putting a hand on Joey's shoulder, whereupon he jerks once again.
Extended Version 5 sec longer
Phoebe tries to calm Monica in the Extended Version: "Come on. It's not that bad. You never know. Bell-bottoms came back in."
Monica rolls her eyes.
The TV Version shows another take of Phoebe; the following shot of Ross begins earlier.
Extended Version 5 sec longer
Chandler has just managed to calm Joey down ("When the doctor does that hernia test...that's ok.").
He adds here: "If your mechanic does it..." - he shakes his head. Joey indicates that he understands.
Only the TV version on the Blu-ray shows the logos of Bright Kauffman Crane and Warner Bros at the end of the episode, which amounts up to 8 seconds. This won't be mentioned anymore in the following reports.
