Alternative / recut
16:51-18:53 / 21:46-25:13 After Yang Chin Wen was happy about his university admission the versions diverge a lot - up to the scene where Tan is woken up by Ah Xiang and goes to the nightclub. At the Celestial-Master Yang immediately dresses up or buys new clothes for his studies. Then Tan's grandpa is threatened by Chu Ho who asks for Ah Dong. When he is left injured Ah Xiang is added and the picture blurs over a view of his grandfather.
In the original version you see Tan picking sunglasses on the street instead with some guys chasing him. In an alley there is a fight in which Tan holds his ground sovereignly. His new glasses get broken and when the police arrives the attackers disappear quickly. Then Tan and his grandfather are seen with the rescued woman and Ah Xiang offers to live with them. Finally the grandfather is visited and threatened by Chu Ho, but in a different location. If they wouldn't bring the girl back to Chu Ho, they would come by every day from now on to beat him up.
original version 77,3 sec (= 1:17 min) longer 20:15 / 26:42-26:44 The policemen shoot a little longer & the camera pans down onto Tan running away. 2.3 sec
