The 18 Bronzemen

original title: Shao Lin Si shi ba tong ren

Comparison:

  • Recut (HD Version)
  • Reconstructed Original Cut
Release: Apr 13, 2022 - Author: Muck47 - Translator: Muck47 - external link: IMDB
Rearranged scene
19:43 resp. 40:23-41:41 / 10:55-14:47

The prince speaks a bit longer in the Original cut. Since he knows about the son's whereabouts in the monastery, he orders a hit. This is seen immediately, as well as some subsequent discussion among the students. Tang critically asks why someone should try to kill Shao.

Then follows a block of scenes a little longer than a minute, in which you again see the students training. Some stuff with their hands and balance exercises are done. Comes in the recut mostly identical to 40:23-41:41, after Tang and Shao failed in the bronze men.
41:41 / 14:02-14:47

In the end, however, one part remains exclusive to the original version: More arm exercises and an earlier instruction on pressure points.

45.6 sec

Original cut 154.3 sec (= 2:34 min) longer

During 22:14-22:29 in the recut there are some shots of training with stones, which obviously do not come from this film. We also weren't able to place the following outside shot of the temple. Before the versions run in sync again with the pressure point scene, this should be mentioned individually.

Rearranged scene
25:02 resp. 43:16-45:50 / 15:12-19:34

Here comes a scene that was pushed far back in the recut, seen there shortened from 43:16-45:50. Shao is robbed at night and has a small duel with the burglar. Discussion with Tang and monks follows. Afterwards a scene with the prince, who is informed by a servant about the death of the informer, who was also his son.
Additional scene in recut
43:32-43:38 / 15:28

Before Shao wakes up, the recut interestingly has an additional shot of another monk muttering something to himself in his sleep. It's probably from another film.

+ 6.2 sec

Rearranged scene
44:36-44:38 / 16:26 resp. 16:33-16:35

After the assassin is killed, the recut shows a shot of Shao a bit earlier.

No time difference

45:50 / 17:39-19:34

After the guy is kicked out, the prince tells two others to be persistent.
Now the emperor joins them, whereupon the commander immediately submits. The emperor praises the commander for his loyalty and says that he should continue his efforts to exterminate all rebels. The commander replies that he will now redouble his efforts.

114.4 sec (= 1:54 min)

Rearranged scene
25:09 resp. 25:12-25:16 / 19:41-19:47

More shots of Tang under the bell. This is inserted again, somewhat shortened, shortly afterwards and thus interrupts the shot of the monk before he makes his comment.

Uncut 2.3 sec longer

Alternative / Additional scene in recut
26:09-30:16 / 20:44-21:27

In the original cut a scene at night follows: Shao remembers his childhood through the amulet and how his mother brought him to the monastery.

The recut instead shows Tang during another test. This is probably from another movie. He dodges arrows at the beginning, catches them with his mouth and throws them back against two spots on the wall. Bullets then come flying at him. He catches these too and throws them back against statues on the wall. Next come knives from the ceiling and wooden stakes from the side walls. Tang tries extensively to stop the latter, but ends up falling to the floor. Another shot of the sky follows.

Recut 203.9 sec (= 3:24 min) länger

34:57 / 26:08-26:55

Shao and Tang fight their way through the bronze men. There is a missing part here: Tang confronts a fighter placed at the nearest exit. Shao also fights one, who then suddenly just disappears into the ground. In the hallway he has to fight off more bronze men and is finally held by the stomach.

47.1 sec

Alternative
35:09-36:51 / 27:07-27:34

In the original cut Tang wanders much longer through the corridors.

In the recut one sees another test for several monks on a large bell.

Recut 74.5 sec (= 1:14 min) longer

38:41 / 29:24-29:26

Tang is seen a moment longer and the bronze men insignificantly earlier.

2.1 sec

38:42 / 29:27-29:28

The transition between the next two shots is also a bit longer.

0.8 sec

39:07 / 29:53-29:55

Shao is attacked a little longer by the bronze men.

1.8 sec

40:23 resp. 41:41 / 31:11-32:51

While in the recut here a previously mentioned training session is inserted, the original cut instead shows a longer lesson for the students. The monk explains that the room at hand would be a testament of decades of work by other monks. He walks away and Shao notes that it would take years to read all the books. There is some discussion and Tang insists that one should read everything from cover to cover.

99.9 sec (= 1:40 min)
