Compared were the cut UK DVD by Vipco (BBFC 18) and the uncut R-Rated DVD by Blue Underground.

There's missing 1 minute and 18 seconds within 2 scenes.

At first view it seems that "The Toolbox Murders" has been released in many different censored versions. For this reason we checked in total 5 different versions. The following can be told:

R-Rated vs. Unrated
The film was released in the USA as an R-Rated version on VHS and later also on DVD by Blue Underground. The first edition of the DVD (2002) clearly shows a "Not-Rated" seal, while the new edition of the DVD (2003) also shows a "R-Rated" seal. Apart from that, both US DVDs are optically pretty much identical. We compared the R-Rated VHS and the R-Rated DVD with the Unrated version. All versions are identical. So the R-Rated version is uncut. Thus it can be assumed that all US versions are identical and therefore uncut.

UK Versions
In the UK the film was at first released in the cinemas in an extremely cut version. They had to remove about 6 minutes. So at first the film was released on VHS as a so called Pre-Cert version without an BBFC rating by Hokushin and 2 years later this version of the film was put on the infamous list of video nasties. Again 2 years later this ban was lifted again. Sometimes it can be read that the Hokushin tape would contain the heavily censored UK Theatrical version. So we checked this VHS version too, but no cuts could be noticed. If there are two editions by Hokushin can't be figured out.

The film was later re-released by Vipco on VHS and DVD, but it had to be cut in two scenes to get the BBFC 18 rating. Obviously Vipco has gone a little bit too far to fulfill the target of the BBFC because at least one of the two cuts wasn't demanded in this extent by the BBFC. So in the Vipco version the complete end of the nail gun-murder is missing, while the BBFC already demanded at this point in the much more censored Theatrical version only a small cut and not a complete censoring of the whole scene.

Moreover the same version was also released in the UK by Horror Video and Cornerstone. In total here's missing 1 minute and 18 seconds. An uncut DVD has not yet been released in the UK. But the US DVD by Blue Underground has a good picture quality and is region code free.
