With "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", the most successful game ever was released in 1998. The graphics were unique at its time. For the very first time, one could get lost in this memorable 3D world during the attempt of saving Hyrule. Due to its many pre-orders, the game even made it in the Guinness Book of Records.
Hard to believe that sth. has been censored in this game. Sounds weird but it's a fact. The violence violent was slightly higher in the First Edition than in any other following one. Furthermore, the background sounds have been altered and a symbol modified.

There were three different versions in total. The first one was Version 1.0. The cartridge was golden and common in Japan and the US. A very few copies also made it to Europe. And only that cartridge cointains the Uncensored Version 1.0. Then the production was stopped. Two different cartridges in grey were released, Version 1.1 and 1.2. They looked the same and were the most common version, even in Europe. The game was slightly censored but some minor bugs were removed as well. Nowadays, the most common version is Version 1.2.
There's also a Gamecube Version with better graphics. Unfortunately the GameCube version is based on the slightly censored version 1.2 (even in Japan).

Colored Blood
Ganondorf spits blood after he won the fight. In the Uncensored Version, the blood is red. In the Censored Version, it's green.

Link finishs Ganon off in the final fight. In the Uncensored Version, the blood that splatters is red but it's green in the Censored Version.

Different Background Sounds
At the temple. A chorus of voices in the background of the Uncensored Version which has been replaced by moaning in the Censored Versions. The reason for that were Muslem complaints because parts of their prayers were supposedly audible.

Altered Symbols
Another Muslem complaint: In any N64 Version, crescent moons with stars are visible on blocks of stone and the shield. But this alteration has been made for Gamecube only.
