Werewolves on Wheels

Comparison:

  • R-Rated
  • Unrated
Release: Jul 28, 2019 - Author: Mike Lowrey - Translator: Mike Lowrey - external link: IMDB

Filmed in 1971, Werewolves on Wheels, a low-budget biker movie with an occult element to it that derails towards the end in a rather silly way, was not completely uncut. Rated “R” by the MPAA at the time, apparently some slight censorship was demanded by the board. Apart from that, some plot scenes were removed, as well. The unrated version could be found on VHS in the Netherlands, for example. The short moments of violence contained here compared to the R-Rated version are not worth mentioning. The action scenes are almost all just time savings, although there is a charming sequence that demonstrates the friendly solidarity of the biker troupe quite well.

Comparison between the “R”-rated US VHS (by Viking Video Classics) and the Unrated Version (Dutch VHS by Video for Pleasure).

8 cuts = 360.92 sec. or approx. 6 minutes 1 second

0:00:00: The shot of the approaching biker gang is much longer in the unrated version. The movie title is already displayed here.
61,24 sec.

0:05:37: The R-rated version lacks a first kick into the crown jewels.
2.04 sec.

0:34:40: Tarot replies to the joking comment that he probably wasn't pretty enough for the monks to grab him too, that he thinks that there were some horny ones there. Was that too homosexual for the R-rated version back in the day?
10.2 sec.

0:46:44: A whole scene is missing here, but not for censorship reasons. It shows in an entertaining way that the gang members get along well. They simulate the shooting of a commercial in which Pill plays a used car dealer and Scarf plays his dog, which he makes submissive with pills. Then the group knocks over a car in which Helen and Adam are still sitting. Scarf, still in the role of the playful dog, then pulls him out of the car and Adam seems to get angry with him. Everyone is happy.
171.92 sec.

1:03:02: This looks more like time saving. They call longer for the missing Movie.
26.72 sec.

1:06:38: Slow motion as one of the rockers falls down a dune. Insignificant.
33.2 sec

1:11:05: A kick in the crown jewels is missing.
3.2 sec

1:12:08: Again insignificant material is extended. The rockers break off wood for a fire.
52.4 sec.
