It's been a while since "Cutting Class" was released in several countries; Then, Lions Gate published a DVD-Version in the USA. It is interesting to see that the lable "Unrated Version" on the cover is misleading, since normally unrated means uncut. Many people even hoped to get a longer or bloodier version of the movie, especially because there exist photos of scenes that have not been included in any version of the movie yet.

The result was rather disillusioning - it's the complete opposite! The DVD does not even include the uncensored version of the movie. Instead, many killings were replaced by more harmless scenes. The good image quality is the only advantage of this release. It is definitely not a usual "Unrated" version. Maybe the DVD is censored because Lions Gate accidently released the R-Rated-Version. Especially the alternative footage (a typical solution for censorship in R-Rated releases) can be seen as an evidence.

On the UK-DVD we see Gary's throat being cut, some blood pours out of the wound. In the US-version it seems as if Gary more or less passes out, there is no injury on his throat. The cut seems inconvenient.

While in the UK-version the scene where the maths teacher tumbles with the axe in his head and then collapses is shown completely, the US-version cuts to Paula running away. Because she rans away pretty quickly, there are about 2 seconds that only show the empty classroom - again, pretty lousy censorship.

After Paula rams the hammer in Brian's head, he ,in the UK-version, says "Paula..... Please....". We hear that in the US-Version, too, but his face is not shown as long as in the UK-Version. Instead, the movie cuts to Paula and then to Dwight whose head is stuck in a vise.

In the UK-Version, Brian trumbles a little longer when he falls on the chainsaw. This is followed by a cut to Brian and Paula. Brian keeps on trumbling. In the unrated version, we see a close-up of Paula. She watches the scene and is completely horrified. This is followed by a cut to Dwight, then again to Paula. Paula runs over to Dwight. From then on, the rest of the footage is identical.
