The US Blu-ray from Severin was compared with the Dutch VHS from Video for Pleasure. Schizophrenic psychopath George Tatum is released from a mental hospital as supposedly cured. A fatal mistake, as it turns out, because George was part of an experiment with untested drugs. Back in freedom, he can't keep his compulsions under control and starts murdering again... Unfortunately, Severin has also not managed to release the complete version on Blu-ray/UHD. The scene at the beginning in which the two children reappear at Kathy's house and are sent back to bed by her is still missing. However, it should be mentioned that at least some of the missing bits on the Severin Blu-ray have been reconstructed. You see a shot of Kathy lying down and then being watched by George. This was not shown in the Code Red Blu-ray.
In addition, the scene in the old house where George grabs Tony by the neck is not quite complete. Although you can see George running to Tony here, which was not present in the Code Red, the 10 frames in which George grabs Tony are still not included. Instead, the Tom Savini credit can be seen and the scene in the bar is also complete. There are also a few extra seconds here and there. However, the scene with Kathy and the children and the moment when Tony is grabbed by George are included in the bonus material on the Severin Blu-ray. Here you will also find the information that these scenes were not available in all the 35mm HD scans available to Severin and the assumption was made that they were removed before the theatrical release. Only the Dutch and Australian VHS contain these scenes. It is therefore unlikely that a longer HD version of the film will be available in the foreseeable future. The quality of the Severin Blu-ray is very good. While the Code Red still had to contend with dirt here and there, the Severin release offers first-class picture quality. The Code Red Blu-ray had the special feature that in the scene when George talks to the prostitute on the phone in the cabin, the picture was shifted downwards so that it is clear to see what the woman is doing with her vibrator. In the Severin Blu-ray, the frame is not shifted. Code Red Blu-ray / Severin Blu-ray In the bonus material of the Severin release, however, there is an open matte version of this scene in which everything can be seen again. [00:00:00][00:00:00]
