Comparison between the cut US VHS and the uncut German DVD.

- 5 cuts
- Cut duration: 80.8 sec (= 1:21 min)

Also, 14 missing moments on the German DVD with a duration of 21.2 sec

A few additional master errors with a duration of less than 0.5 sec each were not listed in the report.

Hard as a Dragon or The Tiger Jump is a rare Eastern that has basically only been preserved in acceptable quality in Germany, but a 35mm scanning, two Super-8 versions of different lengths as well as the VHS in this country have all been shortened to different degrees. For the DVD released on 7 March 2019 as part of the "Asia Line" series, the uncut version was therefore reconstructed using these widescreen sources as the basis and additions were made that stem from several foreign VHS releases.

Previously, the film was only available in its entirety on VHS in Hong Kong, but this was not an acceptable option due to the massively zoomed full screen, catastrophic picture quality and film tears/wears. The French VHS contained - at least in widescreen - most of the violent scenes that were missing in the four German versions, but it was also cut at its own places and due to several film tears as well as some longer missing scenes it was even a few minutes shorter. The US VHS was also available in widescreen, but the picture quality was clearly worse and it was also shortened, as well.

That's what the following comparison is about, because right at the beginning, the US VHS lost about one minute during a fight scene. Probably just a longer master error, but with that the version is clearly to be classified as shortened. There are a few more deviations due to the original version. And many, completely insignificant frame cuts without censorship/action relevance, which were ignored when reconstructing the extended version for the German DVD, can be found here again.

Runtimes are ordered as follows: US VHS in PAL / German DVD in PAL

The US VHS has an additional title insertion at the beginning.

+ 5 sec
