Family Guy is a huge success on FOX. But some modifications need to be made to get permission to air it on FOX because some gags are too rude for TV. Other gags have only been removed to reach the appropiate length for an episode on TV, which means not all the differences were made due to censorship. Nevertheless there are still enough hilarious, outrages gags in it so that fans are gonna have lots of fun with watching the TV Version on FOX. (I'm speaking from experience.)
BTW It airs every sunday evening on FOX. That's really nice because you can also watch the new American Dad episode and new episode of The Cleveland Show. So you've got a terrific triple feature. And when you're watching FOX anyway, you can also watch the latest Simpsons episode. I can really imagine worse evening than watching the latest episodes of the series by Seth MacFarlane plus some new adventures of Homer & Co.
The latest DVD box of Family Guy is available since 06.15.2010 in the US. "Volume 8" ignores the regular counting again and contains the episodes 10 to 16 from season 7 plus episodes 1 to 8 from season 8. To make it more cunfusing, the equivalent UK release is called "Season 9" and was released 01. November 2010. But then again the fans should already be familiar with that confusion. So let's cut it out and talk about the DVD release itself, which contains longer DVD Versions again (with an average of 1 - 2 more minutes of footage per episode). As in the previous seasons, some of the scenes needed to be removed for time reasons, other were just too rude for TV. That's why they either got cut out or modified. The Original TV Version is also on board.
Apart from the usual uncensored swear words, episode 8x06 ("Quagmire's Baby") only contains some plot extensions in the DVD Version. It's really doubtful that the removal of that footage was necessary and the last gag is also missing in the TV Version.
Extended shot of Peter talking to the ghosts.
"I am Peter Griffin. I am your friend. Don't be shy. Humphrey Bogart? Don Knotts? That kid I was supposed to be watching at the pool? Hello."
Joe swears: "No shit."
Stewie replies before Brian asks for his own clone.
"It's a lifesaver, Brian, I'll tell you."
The conversation continues after Lois told about Chirs' birth.
Lois: "Anyway, isn't this a beautiful little girl?"
Quagmire: "Yeah, but she kind of stinks."
Lois checks the diapers: "Well, no wonder. She's pooped herself."
Quagmire startles: "Ew! It's new car smell."
Quagmire: "That's what a new car smells like. It's disgusting."
Peter: "Where are you buying your cars, Quagmire?"
Quagmire: "I buy them online at poopcars.com."
Peter: "Okay, well, I think I just solved the mystery."
The scene ends differently.
In the TV Version, Brian says: "I'm not proud of this, but I need to lick that up."
But in the DVD Version he says: "You don't see my ATM card in there, do you?"
Stewie: "No. Do you want me to dig around and see if..."
Brian: "No, fuck it. It's fine."
DVD Version 1.8 sec longer
