In 2007, TV broadcaster CBS had the series' special effects remastered. Even in its day, better effects would have been possible, if it weren't for the lack of the neccessary funding.

Both fans and participants of the series are two-minded about this version. It has to be said, though, that the new effects were used really carefully and that they harmonize very well with the show's aged charme. Which version to prefer remains a matter of taste, though.

Another fact is that very rarely, some shots have been swapped completely. This is not counting the exterior views of the Enterprise, as most of those were replaced by an improved version in almost every single episode. Specifically in this episode, there were also improved shots of the planet Vulkan used. More on this in the following report.
