Comparison:

  • Theatrical Version
  • Extended Version
Release: Aug 24, 2010 - Author: Forrest - Translator: Mr Miau - external link: IMDB
Comparison between the Theatrical Version (PG-13) and the Extended Version (Unrated), both by 20th Century Fox.

Running times and differences:

Theatrical Version w/o ending credits: 1:22:12
Extended Version w/o ending credits: 1:37:03

The running time difference in total sums up to approx. 15 minutes (w/o ending credits), about 10 of those are made up of big and important differences. These are mostly alternative scenes, the smaller differences in contrast are usually one or more added sentences. The new scenes add to the movie's quality and make it even more funny than it initially was already. Good examples for this are the scenes with the couple asking the Fosters for money or the ones in the subway.

The DVD:

The US DVD is a Flipper DVD which contains both versions. There is also an additional holographic cover included, maybe as a first issue bonus. The following releases may not contain it.

Important notice:

This comparison does not list every little difference betwen the two versions. Small scene extensions in which the actors can merely be seen longer etc. and nothing of importance happens will not be mentioned. The same applies to alternative footage showing only slight changes. Smaller and rather unimportant cuts and changes will be mentioned without pictures. I tried to list every other difference, but it is possible that I missed something. However, every one of the changes that are big and important for the reader are documented.

The conversation in the subway is longer.
Claire: "Ew, Peppermint Hippo. That's... Neither of those two words are dirty, but somehow together that is the filthiest thing I've ever heard."
Phil: "Thing is, this ledger had only pictures and information about one client, District Attorney Crenshaw."
Claire: "The guy with the broom?"
Phil: "The Tripplehorns may have stolen the flash drive from Miletto, but they were blackmailing the DA."
Claire: "That's ambitious for those two dirtbags."
During the further conversation, different footage has been used. The Theatrical Version shows the two from the waist on up, the Extended Version from a long shot.

Theatrical Version

Here, the Theatrical Version shows the dialog that could be seen before in the Extended Version.

Phil: "Thing is, this ledger had only pictures and information about one client, District Attorney Crenshaw."
Claire: "The guy with the broom?"
Phil: "The Tripplehorns may have stolen the flash drive from Miletto, but they were blackmailing the DA."

Extended Version

Whenever Phil talks about Crenshaw and Miletto, the camera shows the homeless people in the subway.

Phil: "No, we might get bumped off. We might get whacked. Okay, let me... Okay, let me break it down for you, all right. That guy over there. Let's just say that guy is Crenshaw. (A homeless man can be seen) He's a DA. He's a good guy. He should be busting people like Joe Miletto. (Another homeless man can be seen) He's a gangster. He's a bad guy. He's very bad. But Crenshaw can't bust Miletto, because Crenshaw goes to Miletto's clubs to get hookers. (A homeless woman can be seen)."
Claire: "Oh, boy, I hope she's really a hooker. That would be amazing."
Phil: "Now, Miletto makes a flash drive implicating Crenshaw."
Claire: "Which Taste and Whippit steal from The Peppermint Hippo, where she works."
Phil: "Right, they steal it so they can blackmail the DA."
Claire: "So, those two Cops don't work for Miletto. They work for Crenshaw."
Phil: "Right."
Some alternative footage was used during the following conversation again.
