Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
5 cuts = 2 minutes and 55,5 seconds.
One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
Willie and the others are sitting on the couch while looking at shoes Willie wants to give Katherine for her birthday.
Willie: Well, what do you guys think?
Brian: Well, Dad, maybe they looked better on the monitor!
Willie hears Katherine on the doorstep: Oh, there she is! Don't say anything! Remember, it's a surprise! He quickly puts the shoes back into the box. Then Katherine enters carrying two shopping bags.
Lynn: Hi, Mom!
Katherine: How about, "Hi, Mom! You shouldn't be carrying those heavy things, that's our job"?
Lynn: You read our minds!
Katherine hands Lynn and Brian one carrying bag each and then looks after Eric.
After Willie exits the garage, Alf adds: Hey, no wonder he works for the government!
Katherine is cooking in the kitchen, while Lynn is already eating at the table. Brian joins them and says: Mom, I woke up with a craving for French toast and sausage! Katherine gives him some of her cooking, causing Brian to add something to his last sentence: Or oatmeal, whichever's easiest for you! Katherine: Does Alf know that breakfast is ready? Brian calls out: Alf! Breakfast is ready! Katherine: Thank you!
Brian turns back to his oatmeal: Oh, it's still here!
Katherine: You know, I never thought I'd miss the sound of Alf hoovering down his food! Lynn laughs.
Brian: What's bothering him, anyway?
Lynn: He's been glum, glum, glum since Daddy took his keyboard away!
Willie: I heard that! I thought it was high time we establish who, in fact, is in charge in this house! And I'm pretty sure it's me! Katherine looks at him, so Willie corrects himself: Uh, us! No particular order!
Lynn: Nice save, Dad!
There is a slightly different shot of Katherine looking rather desperate after Alf listened in on her and Willie's chat.
US Version: 1,5 sec
German Version: 2,5 sec
Willie and Alf talk longer about their stock business:
Alf: (Trust me! It's Blech! Boston Latrine Chemicals!) You're acting like you've never heard of it!
Willie: I haven't!
Alf: Well, Blech was an important holiday on Melmac! Need I say more?
Willie: Yes! Lots!
Alf: I say we invest the whole 20 Gs! You've got three minutes to decide!
Alf hums the final theme of Jeopardy.
Willie: Stop it! Stop it! Alf, stop! Alf stops, Willie continues. I just don't think that we should put all our eggs into one basket!
Alf: Will you keep your holidays out of this? Come on, Willie! Not only are they the right initials but it's outdoor-concert season! Latrines are gonna go sky high!
Willie: (We are getting out of the stock market right now! I'm gonna take that money! I'm gonna put it in the bank!)
Alf: A bank? Kate, talk some sense into the man! I'm talking swimming pools, movie stars, black gold, Texas tea!
Katherine hands Alf the expensive necklace again and says, No, he's right, Alf!
Alf: Sure Kate! Take this pin and stab me in the back with it!
