Again, a part of the conversation is missing.
(Devon: "Michael Long is dead. Remember that.")
Michael: "How do I suddenly become Michael Knight?"
Devon: "Yes, well…"
Devon gives Michael his new credentials.
Michael: "Driver's license, credit cards…"
Devon: "It's all on Mr. Knight's orders."
Michael: "These are good now. You could have dates these ahead if you wanted me to stay here. You knew I'd leave when I wanted to."
Devon: "You're a primitive, Mr. L…"
Michael shows his new credentials to Devon who stands corrected.
Devon: "Mr. Knight. You're quite predictable."
Michael: "You think the old man was pretty smart, don't you?"
Devon: "A certifiable genius."
Michael: "You must have known what he was doing when he picked me to get a little revenge for him."
Devon smiles a little, he does not say a single word though.
Michael: "I'm on my way."
Michael gets inside his new vehicle.
Devon: "Oh, just a minute. There are several things about this car that i ought to explain."
Michael: "That's alright, I'm a fast study. I'll pick things up as I go along."
Devon is not exactly thrilled: "That's very foolhardy."
Michael: "Goodbye. Thank you. Oh, and I want you to know something. I kinda got to like you."
Devon: "What?"
Michael: "Never mind. What does that mean coming from a primitive anyway?"
Michael drives off, Devon makes a remark regarding Michael's behavior.
Devon: "Oh, Wilton. He's doing everything you said he would. What have you gotten me into?"

Michael and K.I.T.T. are on the road. After a while, a street sign pops up.
Michael: "Millston, in Silicon Valley. 110 miles. Alright, might as well put on some music. All these weird gadgets, you'd think they give you a radio."
At this point, Michael gets to see K.I.T.T. for what he really is for the very first time.
K.I.T.T.: "What would you like to hear?"
Michael is surprised: "What the hell was that?"
Michael pulls over.
K.I.T.T.: "Do you wish further information on Silicon Valley?"
Michael: "Hell no, I wanna know who you are and how you're listening in."
K.I.T.T.: "There's no reason for increased volume. I am scanning your interrogatives quite satisfactorily. I am the voice of Knight Industry Two Thousand's microprocessor. K-I-T-T- for easy reference. 'K.I.T.T.', if you prefer."
Michael: "No, I don't prefer. And what's more, I don't intend to drive around in a car that talks back to me. So either Devon pulls your plug you get yourself another driver."
K.I.T.T.: "I am not qualified to overrule your wishes."
Michael: "Well, that's real good to hear, K.I.T.T. Because I don't wanna hear another peep outta you until I can get a call out to Devon, so clam up. I'm gonna listen to some good music and don"t offer any suggestions. I'll choose my own."
K.I.T.T.: "As you wish, Mr. Knight. But since you're still recovering from your ordeal and I detect we're in a slightly irritable mood caused by fatigue, may I suggest you put the car in the auto cruise mode for safety's sake."
Michael: "No, you may not. And that's final. Good night."
K.I.T.T.: "Good night."
Michael is still confused: "I can't believe this. A car that talks back to me."

Michael keeps driving. Several exterior shots of K.I.T.T. follow. At some point, Michael falls asleep behind the wheel.
K.I.T.T.: "Yoo-hoo, Michael. Michael? Hello, Michael."
Since Michael does not respond, K.I.T.T. switches to autopilot. Unfortunately, there is a slight inconvenience because two cops have spotted Michael sleeping behind the wheel.
Cop #1: "Did you see that?"
Cop #2: "What?"
Cop #1: "That guy was asleep at the wheel?"
Cop #2: "No."
The cops catch up with Michael.
Cop #2: "That man can't be asleep. He's got to be dead."
Cop #1: "Well, if he ain't, he's gonna be. That's Dead Man's Curve up ahead."
But K.I.T.T. keeps driving as if nothing happened which is really confusing for the cops.
Cop #2: "How can he be asleep and drive like that?"
K.I.T.T. tries to wake up Michael: "Michael. Michael."
Now, the cops are on the left side and they honk.
Cop #1 yells at K.I.T.T. and Michael: "Hey! Hey!"
He pounds on the roof.
K.I.T.T. is still busy waking up Michael: "Michael…"
Michael finally wakes up and wonders: "What the…?"

K.I.T.T. pulls over, Michael still has not realized what is happening.
Michael: "What's goin' on? What did I do?"
K.I.T.T.: "Deny everything. If I may suggest, deafness is always a good approach to law enforcement officers."
Michael: "You shut up! Probably weavin' all over the road."
The cops are approaching.
Cop #2: "OK, out!"
K.I.T.T.: "I might also suggest you display a slight kink in your neck since you were driving with your head against the window."
The cops are standing next to Michael.
Cop #2: "I said out!"
But Michael keeps arguing with K.I.T.T.
Michael: "Why didn't you warn me?"
K.I.T.T.: "You told me to keep quiet."
Cop #2 (to his partner): "Who's he talkin' to?"
Cop #1: "Nobody. This boy's a hardcore alky."
They focus on Michael again who finally follows K.I.T.T.'s advice: He starts making wild gestures.
Cop #2: "Did you hear me? I said get out if you don't wanna spend the night in jail!"
Michael rolls down the window.
Cop #1: "That's better. Now come on out. Get the balloon, Deke."
Michael yells at the cops: "I'm sorry, Officer. Could you speak in sign language or a little slower? I haven't gotten lip-reading down yet."
Cop #1: "What do you mean? You can't hear?"
Michael gets out of the car.
Michael: "Could you talk a little louder? Into this ear? Here?"
Michael points to his right ear.
Cop #1 yells back at Michael: "You mean you're deaf?"
Cop #2 yells at his partner: "Oh, that explains everything. I told you he couldn't drive that smooth if he was drunk."
Michael: "What?"
Cop #1 yells at Michael: "He said if… Never mind! Just be on your way. We're sorry we bothered ya. But keep your eye on the rear-view mirror. We been flashin' ya for miles."
Michael: "Yes, sir. I'll do that."
The cops return to their squad car.
Michael (quietly): "Why do I get the feeling this isn't gonna be the last time I'm gonna run into trouble in this town?"

The road trip continues. At some point, Michael stops at a parking lot and sees a sign.
Michael: "ComTron. That looks like a good place to start."
He keeps driving and stops right in front of some bar.
K.I.T.T.: "Social gathering places where alcoholic beverages are consumed in quantity can create an environmet in which indiscretion becomes commonplace. Just remember this is business, not pleasure."
Michael: "You're about as much fun as a divorce. Which is not a bad idea."
K.I.T.T.: "I want custody of me."
Michael: "You know what? I should have gotten rid of you before I turned you on. Now I can't shut you up."
Some irritated women turn around. Michael smiles at them.
Michael: "Hi, ladies."
One of the women says: "Some guys sure start early."
Lonnie (who is part of the group): "He's not our problem."
Some guys walk inside.
Lonnie: "Those guys are. Let's stick to business."
The women go inside as well. The next scene shows Michael who is also inside. He is having a bear while watching Lonnie and the others.

In the meantime, Jackson and Brown have arrived in the parking lot.
Jackson: "Do you see what I see?"
Brown: "Mm-hm."
Brown expresses his excitement in Spanish.
Jackson: "Yeah, and it's mine."
Brown: "Say what?"
Jackson: "It's mine."
They get out of their car and walk up to K.I.T.T.
Jackson: "I have died and gone to automobile heaven."
They take a look inside.
Jackson: "Cover me."
Brown: "Cover you, man. Here? What? Are you outta your mind?"
Jackson: "For this machine I am."
Brown: "Hey, look, not here, Jackson. There's a right way and wrong way to do things and doing this here now is wrong."
Jackson: "You may be right."
Brown: "Hey, I know I'm right. This happens to be the most popular, not to mention the most populated, place in town."
Jackson: There will come another time."
Brown: "That's a fact."
Jackson: "And we will be ready."
They high-five.

Back to Michael. Maggie gets him something to drink.
Maggie: "Your tab is starting to get up there. I'll need a credit card."
Michael: "Yeah, sure."
While getting out his credit card, Michael asks: "Listen, do you happen to know those people in the corner booth over there?"
A shot of Lonnie and the others follows.
Maggie then explains: "Let me do you a favor. Unless you like waking up sucking dirt, don't get interested in anyone at that table."
Michael: "Well, it wasn't anyone at that table I'm curious about, it was somebody else. You know I noticed they all came across the street from ComTron."
Maggie: "Yeah?"
Michael: "Well, I'm trying to find an old friend of mine who works there. Thought she might be able to help me."
Maggie: "Well, I used to work there. Who's your friend?"
Michael: "Her name's Tanya. Tanya Walker."
When Maggie hears that name, she intentionally spills the beverage on Michael's pants. Michael leaps up.
Michael: "Hey! What's the matter with you?"
Maggie: "That's what I think of friend of Tanya Walker."
Der Bar Manager kommt hinzu: "Hey, what happened?"
Michael: "Nothing, nothing. It was just an accident."
Maggie: "Oh, it was no accident."
Bar Manager: "Maggie, this is the last time that I put up with your discourtesy…"
Michael: "See, that's not necessary."
Maggie yells: "Why don't you just go hang out with these ConTron bums? I can fight my own battles."
Maggie thrusts the tray into the manager's hand and rushes off.
Michael (to the bar manager): "Look, I better get outta here before something else comes down."
Bar Manager: "Yeah, right."
Now, Michael leaves as well. Lonnie follows him.

Outside, Lonnie approaches Michael.
Lonnie: "I heard you mention Tanya Walker. You a friend?"
Michael: "You're not gonna throw anything at me, are ya?"
Lonnie: "Why should I? She's a friend of mine, too."
Michael: "Yeah? You might know how I can get hold of her?"
Lonnie: "I'm afraid she's already seeing someone."
Michael: "Well, I'm not interested in her body. I'm interested in her money."
Lonnie: "Come again?"
Michael: "I got something to sell. Something rather valuable."
Lonnie: "Like what?"
Michael walks up to K.I.T.T. and gets in.
Michael: "That's between her and me."
Lonnie: "Eh… who should I tell her enquired?"
Michael: "Tell her an old friend."
Michael drives away, Lonnie watches him leave.

Then a phone conversation between Vernon and Tanya at ComTron.
Vernon: "Security, Gray speaking."
Tanya: "This is Tanya. Someone's coming to town and has been asking about me. I'll give you the car and the license. It's a new black Trans Am with a California license lettering KNIGHT."
Vernon: "If it's another cop, we'll handle it like we did the other ones."
Tanya: "Exactly what I had in mind."
Tanya hangs up. The president of ComTron, William Benjamin, appears behind her.
William: "Mm-hm. Who were you calling, love?"
Tanya: "Oh, just our people in security. As president of this company, you're an irreplacable asset. And I don't want anything to happen to you tomorrow. You know I worry about you when yu go out in public."
William: "Nothing's going to happen to me."
Tanya: "Now, honey, in this day and age, there are a lot of people out there that would love to get their hands on a rich man like you."
They kiss and hug.
Tanya: "You just be grateful yu have somebody like me to take care of you."

Please note: The Syndicated Version contains a small part of the phone conversation between Vernon and Tanya at the end of the episode resp. the 3.5 minutes but I will get to that later.

Back to the bar. Maggie is on her way to the car when Michael shows up all of a sudden.
Michael: "Maggie!"
Maggie: "Get lost! I'm warning you this bag is full of mace."
Michael: "I stayed in my car so I wouldn't scare you."
Maggie: "Well, ain't you the David Niven?"
Michael: "Look, I'm sorry about what happened in there but you misunderstood. (I'm not a friend of Tanya's. I just need to find her.")

More missing footage after Maggie's comment that she could not even afford decent clothes forher son. Maggie is upset and gets in her car.
Maggie: "Now, please leave me alone or I'll put a dent in the middle of that machine. I mean it."
Attempting to be woman of her word, Maggie only damages her car while K.I.T.T. remains unharmed. Maggie is even more upset and gets out of the car.
Michael: "I'll pay to get that fixed for ya."
Maggie: "I don't believe it. How can go through life with luck this bad? I plow into your car and my bumper falls off."
Michael: "Maggie, let me help you change your luck."
Maggie: "Why don't you just leave me alone? I just lost the last job I'm ever gonna get in this town."
Michael: "What if Tanya and her crew could be run out of Millston?"
Maggie: "Don't tell me. You're just about to offer me a silver bullet."
Michael: "Just a chance to get even."
Maggie: "For what? How much do you know about what's going on around here?"
Michael:"I was hoping you could tell me what I need to know."
Maggie: "Why? You really think you can make a difference?"
Michael: "Yes! Now, will you help me?"

Michael takes Maggie home. On the way over there, the conversation continues..
Maggie: "It's a regular boom town. There's more money flowing through here now than then there was during the California gold rush."
Michael: "All because of tiny microchips."
Maggie: "Yeah. Every calculator, every electronic kids game, they were all born right here."
Michael: "How do you fit into Silicon Valley?"
Maggie: "My husband came here to take a job as head of security for ComTron."
Michael: "Didn't work out?"
Maggie: "Oh, yes. It worked out just fine. Until the president decided to hire a brand-new executive assistant."
Michael: "Tanya Walker."
Maggie: "Yep. Before she rode that flashy tail of hers to the top, ComTron was a relatively happy family. Then she came along and she started making wholesale changes."
Michael: "You mean your husband was fired."
Maggie: "Not exactly. He couldn't accept what was going on and then he started poking into things. And one night he didn't come home."
Michael: "Disappeared?"
Maggie: "They found him dead in a gully. They said he'd been drinking. He didn't drink, not even beer."
Michael: "Maggie, how could they make that stick?"
Maggie: "Witnesses? Half a dozen truck drivers who hang out at that place where I work, all animals who work for ComTron."
Michael: "You wouldn't have taken that job to find some answers, would you?"
Maggie: "I took that job to feed my little boy. This is where I live."

Exterior shot of Maggie's house.
Maggie: "I suppose you better come on up."
All of a sudden, the maid Luce opens the door.
Luce: "Senorita, I was so worried."
Maggie: "Luce, I'm sorry. I ran into something."
Luce: "I hope it was nothing serious."
Michael comes in.
Luce: "Oh, my goodness. I hope it is something serious."
Maggie: "Luce, please. You're embarrassing me. Eh… this is Mr. Knight."
Luce welcomes Michael in Spanish.
Maggie explains: "Luce takes care of my son."
Luce: "He's sleeping. Well, I'll be leaving you two. Have a good time. Especially you. (now to Michael) She's a wonderful girl. A saint. Remember that."
Luce hugs Maggie.
Luce: "Good luck. He's a winner."
Luce leaves, Maggie closes the door.
Maggie: "I'm sorry. I don't know what to say. She doesn't usually behave like that."
Michael: "No apologies. I'm flattered."
Maggie: "Well, it's important to me that you believe me. I haven't had a man in my apartment since my husband was killed."

Maggie's son Buddy comes in.
Buddy: "Mom?
Maggie: "Buddy! What are you doing outta bed? (now to Michael) This is buddy."
Michael: "I figured. Hi, Buddy."
Buddy: "Hi. Are you gonna marry my mom?"
Maggie (slightly embarrassed): "I don't believe he just said that. (now to Buddy) Now, will you go back to bed? Right now. (now to Michael again) Just a minute."
Michael: "If I wanted to talk to Tanya alone, where would I go?"
Maggie: "Just a second."
Maggie leaves so she can take Buddy back to bed but Buddy just can't shut up.
Buddy: "Who's Tanya? Competition?"
Michael laughs.
Maggie: "Shh! Go to sleep."

Maggie is back and explains: "Look, I'd forget trying to get to her off duty. You see, I think she's staying at Benjamin's estate."
Michael: "William Benjamin?"
Maggie: "Mm. He owns ComTron and she rarely rarely leaves his side these days."
Buddy still refuses to go back to bed and Maggie does not like it.
Maggie: "Now, you go to sleep!"
Now, Maggie puts two and two together.
Maggie: "Wait a minute. Tomorrow is one day that she and Benjamin do have to go out. ComTron's sponsoring a charity show out at the track."
Michael: "Track?"
Maggie: "Yeah, it's a demolition derby for charity. Buddy wanted to go. You see, in Silicon Valley, they have so much money they don't even use junkers. Every plant is putting up a brand-new car. People are just eating it up."
Michael: "Can anybody enter?"
Maggie: "Oh, come on. Who can afford to get his brand-new car totalled out?"
Michael: "Tell your son I'll beb y to pick the both of you up at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning."
Maggie: "Why? You mean we get to watch it?"
Michael: "You two get to watch. I'll be in it."
And Buddy is back. He yells: "Yeah!"

The next morning. Michael needs to call Devon so he goes to a phone booth. Jackson and Brown show up and they take another stab at it.
Brown: "What do you think?"
Jackson: "Piece of cake."

Meanwhile, Michael has reached Devon.
Devon: "Michael, where on earth are you?"
Michael: "You act as if you didn't know."
Devon: "I'm not clairvoyant."
Michael: "You got a spy though."
Devon: "K.I.T.T.? Don't be ridiculous. He answers only to you. Unless, of course, you're incapacitated and release him."
Michael: "It."
Devon: "Huh?"
Michael: "It is an 'it', not a 'he'. Don't ever forget that."
Devon: "I don't see what difference that makes."
Michael: "That's because I'm the one out here all by his lonesome. I'm a 'he', I could get my face shot off, not it."

Back to Jackson and Brown. The former tries to pick K.I.T.T.'s lock.

Back to Michael and Devon.
Devon: "What's happened, Michael?"
Michael: "Nothing so far but I made contact."
Devon is enthusiastic: Marvellous."
Michael: "Let's hope so, we'll know in a couple of hours."
Devon: "And what happens in two hours?"
Michael: "Demolition derby."
Devon: "Ah, splendid. Demolition… What's a demolition derby?"
Michael: "Well, it's where people enter their cars in sort of a competition."

Jackson is still busy opening K.I.T.T. and bent his pick in the process.
Jackson: "It bent my pick."
Brown. "Come on, quick pick."

Devon and Michael again.
Devon: "Sensational. We can't lose. We have the best car on earth. Now, what happens next?"
Michael: "All the cars get demolished."
Devon: "That's not very funny. Now, what really happens?"
Michael: "That's what really happens."

Jackson is already so frustrated he makes an attempt to actually kick in K.I.T.T.'s front window but all he archieves is hurt his foot.
Brown: "Here, you idiot! Don't be usin' your foot, man. Use something that ain't gonna get hurt."
Brown tosses a brick at K.I.T.T. but it bounces back and hits Jackson on the head. Jackson loses consciousness.
Brown: "Hey, hey. Hey, Jackson. Jackson. Talk to me, man."

In the meantime, Michael is still busy explaining his plan to Devon.
Michael: "Devon, if the car is everything we think it is, we can't get hurt."
Devon: "But much of what we've designed has yet to be proven in the field."
Michael: "I think it's safe to say that by the end of the day, everything will be tested. For better or for worse."
Devon: "Michael…"
But Michael has already hung up.
Devon: "Michael!"
Devon now realizes that the conversation is over: "Demolition derby indeed!"

Michael returns to K.I.T.T. He gets in and drives away. Then Jackson and Brown one more time. Jackson has already regained consciousness and he is really angry that Michael could get in the car just like that while he failed several times.
Jackson: "I'm gettin' mad, man. You understand? Mad!"
Brown: "Yeah. Yeah, well, I can understand that."
Jackson: "That car will be mine. Mine, you hear?"
They then get back in their car.

Recut
03:20 (Syndicated Version)

Subsequent to Michael's encounter with Maggie, the Syndicated Version here contains the fraction of Tanya's phone conversation with Version - as stated earlier.
Tanya: "This is Tanya. Someone's coming to town and has been asking about me. It's a new black Trans Am with a Caifornia license lettering KNIGHT."
(no screenshots)

And with that, the first part of the pilot ends after approx. 3.5 minutes (incl. opening)!
Unfortunately, I do not know the reason for this little recut but it does not matter anyway because this torso is unwatchable anyway!
