Probotector II - Return of the Evil Forces is the follow-up to the classic action game Probotector aka Contra and not only does it share its success, but also its censorship history on the European market.
The game was released in Japan in 1988 as an arcade game, called Super Contra; it was released under the name Super C in the USA. The porting for the NES followed in 1990; a European release was delayed by two further years - and was then heavily edited and given a new name, just like its predecessor.
This is a comparison between the censored European version and the uncensored US version.
The Japanese version is equal to the US version.
The human heroes were replaced with robots, just as it was the case with Contra, and the life bar was altered. The remaining credits are now indicated by little robot symbols instead of badges.
The design of the helicopter which drops off the characters was also changed.
All the enemies which looked like humans were replaced with robots.
The helicopter at the end of the first level was replaced by a more futuristic model.
The soldiers on the tanks in the second level were replaced with robots.
No censorship: the color of the projectiles of the boss of the sixth level were changed from red to blue, so they are easier to spot on the red background.
