This is a comparison between the german TV broadcast version and the german extended Blu-ray version
- 13 deviations, 5 of them with alternative material
- Time difference: 214 sec (= 3:34 min.)
Broadcasting since 2010 AMCīs The Walking Dead is a great success.
8 years later the show is still running and reached its corresponding 8th season.
Among itīs german home cinema releases, the seasons 4 and 6 stood out above all:
In the 4th season there were two extended versions and one uncensored version of the final episode. In season 6, an episode with the in TV still defused F-word was to be seen and the season finale was extended in several scenes by a few curses from Negan (notorious for his loose mouth).
After the season 7 home cinema release made an exception again, season 8 has 6 episodes in extended form.
The already available US-Blu-ray was available to us and in contrast to season 6 not both versions, but only the extended versions are on the discs. These are the episodes 5, 6, 8, 14, 15 and 16. On the 8th of November 2018 the season will also be released in germany on Blu-ray (and fortunately you get the longer versions also. However, the german counterpart will include the regular TV versions and also the extended versions available as a bonus in english with german subtitles.
Episode 5 (Die Beichte aka The Big Scary U) is about 3.5 minutes longer and offers mainly new scenes with Negan. But you don't have to expect new moaning tirades from him here, the TV version was obviously shortened only for tightening reasons and not because of censorship issues. The other additional scenes are also rather trivial dialogue sequences, for exchange with shorter filmtakes that have been deleted from the TV version. All in all not too spectacular.
Run time specifications are arranged according to the following scheme
TV version in NTSC / American Blu-ray
Because of an reference at the beginning, the TV version starts a little earlier. (not included in the cut-comparison/duration)
+ 5 sec
00:52 / 00:47-01:28
After the scene with Gabriel you see Eugene awaken in his armchair and slowly getting up. After that, Dwight prepares a couple of figures on a chessboard.
03:12-03:14 / 03:49-03:58
Saying goodbye to Gregory proceeds differently, respectively while this can be seen in the TV version in the same angle, the extended Version change to another camera-perspective. Simon turns around again towards the door with a meaningful look
extended 7,8 sec longer
03:14 / 03:58-04:44
Right after that scene (only in the extended Version) you can see Negan walking down the hallway and everyone is kneeling in front of him. He comments that with "Aye, aye. Guys, get the doctor an omelet. He has gotten with the program. That is a nice kneel."
He goes and stands on a balustrade and thinks after that: "As you were."
03:25-03:30 / 04:55-05:10
Before Gregory is saying "Negan, let me lay this down straight for you" (from a different camera-angle), he still shuffles a little bit further.
Gregory: "This is something amazing. And that satellite outpost? Impressive."
Simon: "You already said that about the satellite outpost, so why don't you go on, Gregory?"
Extended 10,9 sec longer
03:43-03:48 / 05:23-05:32
Gregory says the same on both versions but the extended version delays this a little bit further. There is an alternate take of Gregory and the listeners.

05:30 / 07:14-07:28
Gregory means: "Given the right opportunity--"
Gina: "You can't stop it before it starts, because it's already started."

Gregory: "We can. And I'm the shovel."
19:05-19:12 / 21:02-21:13
In the extended edition Simon still sits in the beginning but in the TV version he already stands.
The cameratake of Eugene and Jared is also different, in addition, Gina and Gavin can be seen earlier.

A longer camerashot of Gina, then Simon stands up at the beginning of the angle.
24:58-25:25 / 27:04-27:56
It takes a bit longer in the TV-version for Eugene to stand up in the same angle. Right after that you can see him talk to Jared at the door.
In the extended Version Eugene stands up in a different angle and have a chat afterwards.
Eugene: "I myself have painted many fantasy miniatures on both, the 28-millimeter and the 32-millimeter heroic scales. I believe once our snafu is R.l.P., you and I should pass an evening comparing notes, one enthusiast to another."
Jared shakes his head: "Mm. We aren't gonna do that, Eugene."
Eugene: "Fair enough."
The rest of the conversation can be seen identically but in alternate takes and angles.
extended Version 26,2 sec longer
26:48 / 29:20-29:26
Negan still means at the end of the cameratake: "We still got choices. There are always choices."
26:56 / 29:33-29:36
Negan's subsequent cameratake starts a little earlier too and he answered "It's not why I'm weak" corresponding to Gabriels question.

A insignificantly longer black picture (not included in the cut-comparison/duration).
36:04 / 38:45-39:22
And again a longer conversation between Gabriel and Negan.
Gabriel: "I was doing what you said you do. I was gonna save people by killing you."
Negan: "Well, then, I'll tell you what. If you want to take your next few shots right through this wall, see how you do? Go ahead. I gotta tell you, I don't like your odds, and I promise you I will not turn the other ass cheek on that one. We have Lucille to help us get to the Sanctuary. We have that gun. We should use it. Most importantly, Gabriel, we have each other."
40:36 / 43:54-43:55
And again an insignificantly longer black picture (not included in the cut-comparison/duration).
49:22 / 52:41-52:54
Negan laughs once again, pat Eugene easily on the shoulder and walks away.
Eugene stays behind worried looking
