Comparison:

  • US Version
  • German Version
Release: Dec 25, 2014 - Author: Eiskaltes Grab - Translator: DaxRider123 - external link: IMDB - more from this series
Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.

The differences:

9 cuts = 2 minutes and 8 seconds.
3 alternate scenes = 1 Minute and 20 seconds.

One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.

As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.

As a reaction to Brian's asparagus costume for his school's theater, Alf adds: Personally, I'm appalled by the whole idea! On Melmac we only dressed as vegetables during periods of mourning! Or when someone died!
Katherine: Well, when someone dies here we generally wear dark clothes, maybe a hat!
Alf: A hat? To a funeral? When do you wear feathers?
Katherine: We don't!
Alf: Barbarians!

Willie: (Why don't you and I run over the song before Spencer gets here?)
Brian: Daddy, I don't want to!
Willie: Brian, you were so excited about this!

You can see Willie holding the phone to his ear while Alf and Brian watch Bonanza on TV. They cranked the audio up too high, so Willie tells Alf to turn it down a little bit.
Alf: Now? Bonanza is just coming!
Katherine: Alf, you've seen Bonanza a hundred times!
Alf: I know, but this is one of the lost episodes!
Willie: Please turn that off!
Alf: Fine!
Alf turns of the TV.
Alf: It's lost forever!

Katherine and Lynn enter the hall where the play is going to be enacted. They start looking for their seats.
Lynn: Mom, I think those people are in our seats!
Katherine talks to the couple on their seats: Excuse me, I believe you're in our seats!
Man: No, these are seats 11 and 12!
He shows Katherine his tickets.
Katherine: Ah! Here's the problem! Your seats are in the meat section! And this is the vegetable section! You're all vegetables, aren't you!
Man: Yeah, absolutely!
Katherine: We're all vegetables!
Man: Lady, I think you're mistaken! We're potatoes!
Katherine: No, these are not potatoes! These are Cornish game hens!
Man: What are you talking about? Look, here's the butter and here's the chives!
Katherine: No, I'm sorry, I think that's wild rice!
Lynn: Yes! Yes, it is!
Man: Oh, yeah! Right! Come on, Sally! We're poultry!
The couple goes over to the other seats while Lynn and Katherine now take a seat on their reserved chairs.
Katherine: I hope Brian's gonna be all right !
Lynn: Oh, he'll be fine! He's a trooper!
Katherine: Yeah!

The US Version instead shows an exterior shot of the Tanners' house.

German Version: 79 sec

Spencer enters the stage and tells a bad joke to the audience.
Katherine: What's wrong?
Lynn: It wasn't funny!
Katherine: No, I mean, where's Brian? Why isn't he up there?
Since the audience does not laugh at Spencer's joke, he comments: What is this? An audience or an oil painting?

18 min
Mrs. Lyman: Mr. Tanner, what seems to be the problem?
Willie: Brian's lost a tooth!
Mrs. Lyman: Oh, how cute! But there's no business like show business! So let's go on with the show!
Willie: I'm afraid we'll need another minute or so!
Mrs. Lyman: Well, all right, but please hurry! The radishes are getting testy!
Cut to Spencer who asks the audience who lives outside of the city.

The US Version instead shows the scene where Spencer tells his joke while Katherine tells Lynn that she thinks it is rather oddd that Brian has not yet entered the stage. This, of course, was already shown in the German Version.
No difference in time.
