The R-rated theatrical version (Free TV broadcast on German station Pro7 Maxx) was compared with the Japanese DVD by Paramount. After the great success of the Jackass TV series on MTV, Jackass: The Movie came to theaters in 2002. Little has changed in the concept, so that Johnny Knoxville and Co. present their stunts and silliness in various short segments. Since different restrictions apply to cinema than to TV, it was even possible to go one step further, be it by Ryan Dunn, who inserts a toy car anally or Steve-O, who snorts wasabi. In Japan, an alternative version of the film was released on DVD, called the "Japan Special Collectors Edition". Since some scenes were filmed in Tokyo, it is reasonable to assume that additional material from Japan was added, but the exact opposite is the case. Several segments that play in Japan have been removed, including "Party Boy Japan", "The Big Cone", Preston Lacy chasing Wee Man in Japan, "The Gong" and "The Fortune Teller". Inserted instead were the segments "Sand Vagina", "Pocket Ass Return" and "Seattle skimbording". The scenes were probably exchanged because in them, the Japanese culture is a little bit too much in a silly focus. The newly inserted segments can be found on several DVDs in the deleted scenes section, so unfortunately you won't get to see anything really new. In the Japanese DVD, there are some more faces of persons or various objects blurred. One can't quite figure out the logic behind the work here.
[00:21:43][00:14:13]
After the stunts with the golf carts, the "Party Boy Japan" segment follows in the R-rated. Chris Pontius dances in his role as Party Boy in a Japanese electronics store in Tokyo until a security guard tries to take him away. Pontius manages to steal his cap and just keeps dancing.
In the Japanese DVD follows instead another segment with Chris Pontius called "Sand Vagina". Pontius explains to the viewer the differences between an oversized sand vagina and a real vagina. A song about the sand vagina follows. Then you see him in a penis costume. He runs towards the sand vagina and simulates a penetration.
R-rated: 1:17 min. Japan: 1:54 sec. [00:44:42][00:33:00] The R-Rated shows Wee Man in the monster cone segment, where he puts on an oversized cone and walks through the streets of Tokyo. He stops passers-by, crosses the Shibuya intersection and obstructs passers-by at the end of an escalator.
R-rated: 54 sec. [00:49:18][00:36:43] In front of the Night Pandas, the R-Rated shows a stunt by Ehren McGhehey, who tries to surf over a puddle of water, but is then hit by a shopping cart.
The Japanese DVD shows Johnny Knoxville going into a sex shop and asking for a "Pocket Ass". The saleswoman shows him a sex toy that shows a penis and the butt of a man that Knoxville finally buys. Back in the car he unpacks the "Pocket Ass" and lubricates it with lubricant and red paint and starts the vibration motor. This is followed by the second part of the segment where he wants to bring the sex toy back. He says that he can't turn off the motor. When the salesman turns off the motor, he goes on to say that something sharp has hurt his penis and he wants his money back. He presents the apparently bloody sex toy. The horrified salesman says that this is not possible and asks Knoxville to pack the sex toy back. Knoxville wants to show the seller his penis injury and eventually negotiates that he can exchange the "Pocket Ass".
R-rated: 10 sec. Japan DVD: 2:41 min. [01:00:44][00:45:18] After Steve-O's wasabi sniff, you see him and Wee Man, both in sumo wrestling outfits, being chased through Tokyo by Preston Lacy.
"The Gong" follows in which Johnny Knoxville and Rick Kosick scare passers-by in Tokyo with a loud gong. In the end he pulls down Rick Kosick's pants.
In the Japanese DVD, you can instead see "Seattle Skimbording" in which Chris Pontius, Ehren McGhehey and Dave England try to surf on puddles of water.
The short part with Ehren McGhehey had been in the R-Rated before. [01:07:47][00:52:57] After the Paper Cuts, there is a scene in the R-Rated with Party Boy dancing in front of a Japanese fortune teller.
R-rated: 37 sec. [01:24:21][01:04:02] In the Japanese DVD, a sentence by Steve-O at the beginning of the fireworks stunt is missing. Steve-O thinks that he finds it a little shady in Japan.
