Comparison between the cut Japanese theatrical version on the Japanese Blu-ray by Twin / Paramont and the uncut original version on the German Blu-ray by Splendid.
Fans might know that in Japan, you could often come across longer film versions of the Hong Kong star Jackie Chan. On the other hand, we have also noticed in several reports about the 70's and 80's movies that the Japanese theatrical versions were also cut in some cases. This is also the case with Fearless Hyena 2, a "Chansploitation" entry that was mostly done with a Jackie double. With more than 13 minutes missing in some very special places, the version even tops its counterparts from Germany and France. Especially the comedy-scenes with the sidekicks Austin Wai and Hon Kwok-Choi, which were only partly effective, were deleted. Still, it's also remarkable that you can actually find some additional material in Japan, at least in that there are only two minutes of credits with repeated action scenes from the movie. However, you won't find any really exclusive moments, so that this is rather unspectacular. What's special about the Japanese Blu-ray, apart from the Japanese TV special "Jackie Fist" as a bonus, is that the scanned movie version is in real HD. However, it's also only of limited use with the cuts. On the Japanese Blu-ray, there is a text board with the domestic title as an introduction. The German Blu-ray has various logos instead.
Not included in the cut duration/quantity. German Blu-ray 39.2 sec longer
After about one minute, the credits deviate: In Japan in English - including a nice spelling for our star.
21:08 / 21:47-22:38 Another scene with the lazy Tommy, who has also built apparatus in his hut for a rag wetted with water and breakfast. 50.4 sec
21:51 / 23:31-27:07 Here you can see a small ceremony, a coffin is carried through the city. Frog pretends to mourn about it and gets paid for it by his companion. The guy with the scar on his face notices him and comes to collect his debts. Reluctantly, Frog gives him the payment he has just received, but that is not enough for the debt collector. Finally, Frog escapes and thus shows up earlier at Tommy's cabin. He drinks some water first and then goes to the window. 226.2 sec (= 3:46 min)
35:11 / 40:27-41:48 Jackie hurries away longer and the guy follows him. Afterwards, a lot of gambling with Frog, with Tommy watching from above. 80.7 sec (= 1:21 min)
38:49 / 45:26-46:58 The last shot in the city is a little longer, then the grandfather visits Chang and talks to him. It's about him being persecuted by the devils of heaven and earth and them both hiding. Besides, the respective sons would be good for nothing and maybe they should be trained together. 92 sec (= 1:32 min)
39:58 / 48:07-48:53 At the command of the bosses, the golden warriors attack and you can see some battle scenes. The Japanese version resumes with a close-up where sabers are extended from the warriors' shields. 46,8 sec
